The combination of the gauge and the sender unit is fantastic. The gauge is very responsive, and it reads exactly what I expected it to, and the unit as a whole is very well-made. The instructions are clear, there are accessories to help mount the gauge and sender, and the installation was relatively painless. br>br>The lighting is the only flaw in this unit. Because the bulb housing screws into the back interferes with the nut that connects to ground, you must unscrew that nut before installing the bulb. The lighting is incandescent, and you can choose between standard white light or changing the color by covering the bulb with a green/red cover. This system is functional, but it is far from ideal. The lighting is dim and only visible in the evenings and at night. Although this isn't necessarily a problem, an LED would be a far better choice. I'm going to order a few 12V LED bulbs to replace the bulbs, which should give me a much brighter gauge and expand my color options. br>br>In conclusion: It's a great budget gauge that's easy to set up, but the back-end isn't very user-friendly. There is a lack of lighting in the room. At this price, it's acceptable, and with a little electrical knowledge, it's possible to make it work. You can easily make this gauge cost twice as much as a unit that costs twice as much.
Make certain that the part into which the sender is screwed is grounded! After some research, I discovered that the threaded body of the one wire sender must be grounded, which means that if you're using it on a coolant hose adapter, make sure the adapter has a mounting point for a ground cable to attach to it. This adapter is sold by Autometer, but many aftermarket companies make their own in a variety of diameters to fit different coolant hoses.
I've had my autometer trans temp gauge for over a year and couldn't be happier with it. I decided to pick up this water gauge to fill in my second empty gauge pod. Everything went smoothly during installation, and it's now up and running. A great company produces a high-quality product. Boys, keep up the good work.
It works perfectly. This was installed on an aircraft belt loader as a replacement for another temperature gauge that had been smashed and didn't require anything complicated, stylish, or expensive. It was simple to install because the sending unit threaded right into the existing thermostat housing, and it has a nice clean and simple appearance. I'll be returning to Auto Meter for all of my gauge needs in the future.
When purchasing, look for a sensor adaptor that is appropriate for your application.
It displays the temperature and is compatible with my electric fan controller.
On a 1978 Jeep, this is how it looks. The original gauge was devoid of any data. This metric is very precise: You can even see the coolant warm up and the thermostat open, resulting in a temperature drop, which is exactly what should happen.
We only use this truck as a 4WD ranch truck, and the temperatures can rise quickly when you're in Four Low going uphill for an extended period of time, so being able to monitor the temperature was critical. The gauge responds quickly and behaves as expected, so it's of excellent quality.
