My car worked well with a hose clamp.
Almost all low-cost gauges are made of plastic and have a chrome finish. This was purchased to replace a 20-year-old model of the same tach. After 20 years in the same truck, the "plastic chrome" still looked good, despite some obvious wear. I only replaced it because the tachometer had stopped working. It's important to remember that this is Autogage "by" Autometer. This is the more affordable option.
It should be compatible with any version of v8. The steering colum is the best place to mount it. Mine is mounted on a 1952 Chevy pickup with a 283 engine, and it runs perfectly.
There are options for four people. cylinders 6, 7, and 8

The longevity of this tach is its best feature. For years, Auto Meter has maintained the same basic design for this model. Over the course of its 20-year life, I had an older model of this tach that was used in multiple vehicles. They changed the mounting slightly and used plastic instead of steel for the mount, but it installed easily and is surprisingly sturdy. It has a large face and numbers that are easy to see, and it is simple to install, especially if you already own one. Mine is installed in an 87 Chevy 4wd that sees a lot of dirt and is shaken around a lot. There will be no issues.
This tachometer is quite large. Regardless, I used it until I could find something more compact. This was for a 1937 Pontiac with limited space for installation. It did fit, but as I previously stated, it was quite large. There's nothing wrong with it, but double-check the measurements for your vehicle.
When I first saw the advertisement, the cover appeared to be made of metal chrome, but it was actually made of chrome plastic. I didn't realize it until I opened the box, but I needed the tach, so I couldn't throw it away.
I am satisfied with the results; there are no issues. Though I posted a few photos of the new tech and my old tech, my old one is a little faster in reading the rpm's. br>br>update 9/17/2021br>continues to work well with no issues. My engine will spin at 8500 rpms, and I've added a few new photos to the gallery.
The wires are WAY too short, and the unit does not swivel for a side installation.
Looks great, but I haven't installed it yet. For the price, it's a nice tach that isn't too big or out of place.
Because they know it has to go to the distributor, they could use longer wires.
My motorcycle isn't compatible with it.
