Those threads cannot gall, and that's what I liked about them. The Cat 1R0750 has aluminum threads, and returning the first was a bad idea since the first head had aluminum threads. There is a sharp edge to the threads. After smoothing the sharp thread burrs made from when they cut the threads, I used a wet nylon scrunge pad and a steel brush to get things back to its original silky smoothness. I've included pictures showing a typical gall issue that occurred to an unlucky trucker who used an all-aluminum base filter. There can also be problems with them getting stuck while in use, so it is recommended to use antiseize on the 2 micron filter threads of that Cat filter which is extremely gritty and if it gets inside your diesel injection system it is extremely dangerous.
It would be nice to have a second filter downstream, just in case the pieces fall. My wire brush went through it many times and it came out clean A flush with water and a degreaser I baked them dry, to discover whether they were good or not You can get the pieces out if you get them It took me two times to get both bung plugs to seal & then I had to reverse the process Until I thought they were going to strip off I crank the hell out of them. The thread sealer I used was Napa's premium thread sealer. As I found out when I tried my high dollar adapters to get my 1/2" fuel lines down to 5/16" they worked perfectly the first time, showing that the plugs are just as bad! Prior to this item, you should purchase something else.

The all aluminum Baldwn FB1311, the all aluminum Caterpillar 280-171 base, and this base are all better than the all aluminum Baldwn FB1311 The Fleetguard 142784S base is an all aluminum base which weighs only 1. 65 pounds. It does not gouge an aluminum thread, like the Baldwin, Caterpillar and Fleetguard bases. The plated steel threads of this WIX base do not gouge an aluminum thread, like the Caterpillar 1R-type. A 0750 and a 1R The 0749 filter is used to fix this problem.
It leaves much to be desired for an item at this price point in terms of fit and finish. Due to the sharp threads on the filter adapter, the aluminum threads in the filter will be cut, which will necessitate another filter downstream of this one to remove the particles. A gap is created between the filter head and filter gasket because the surface of the gasket does not face perpendicularly to the threads on the filter adapter. In order to overcome and squish the seal, there is a considerable amount of torque needed. Files might help if you have a steady hand, but really, do we need to spend half an hour filing in order to get this done? No, I don't think so.

We have a CAT 1R-X which we've decided to use one of these for It is a fuel filter with the model number 0750. We didn't do a very good job of machining the filter head. Throughout the tool, there were loose metal shavings and sharp edges that should not have been there. In spite of my efforts, I was never able to get an airtight seal with the filter and filter head. Trying to run fuel through it caused it to leak. Whenever I let my engine sit for several hours while the engine was off, I always ended up with completely dry fuel lines. I uninstalled it and replumb ed it several times with no luck. It did not matter what I tried or what I did differently, the issue could not be resolved. The price point earns this product 2 stars. Though I guess what you pay for is what you get.

Despite being otherwise excellent, this filter head almost failed to function because of the poor machining of the threaded nipple that holds the filter in place. In the same way as another reviewer, I bought this to use with a Cat 1R-CAT 6 cable A filter with aluminum threads is part of the 0750 series. As a result of the machining error on this nipple and the galled threads, aluminum is sucked into the filter from the Caterpillar nipple, which in turn pollutes the clean side of the filter. You can expect a return from me. The kind of filter head that dumps contaminants directly into the clean fuel stream will not be used or recommended by me.
