The gears are well-machined and appear to be durable, and the chain is already installed. It was easy to get on and into place because it was stretched and fit perfectly snug! Anything Comp Cam! I'll always be a fan! This 3100 set is far superior to the 2100 and represents a significant upgrade for a small price difference. You get to upgrade without breaking the bank and use a very trusted and reliable name for a fraction of the price of the cheaper brands. It's definitely worth the sleepless nights you'll save worrying about whether your timing set will hold up over time and feel safe knowing you'll get that 100k miles and more before having to do it again.
I originally purchased a 2100 timing chain kit, but the chain that came with it was far too tight. I returned it and bought this 3100 because it appeared to be a low-cost chain. The clearancing block was never mentioned in either of the kits' instructions (except for the chain with 2100). with 3100 for the chain and cam sprocket). The chain on this 3100 is larger and appears to be a much better chain with the word "USA" on it. On rollers like the 2100, it's a true roller chain with no seam. It is also pre-stretched. On the motor I was working on, there was just the right amount of slack. The "GM" logo is on the cam sprocket.
The quality of Comp cam engine parts is excellent, and the prices are reasonable.
Great product, with a pre-stretched chain that should last a long time.
After rebuilding my 1985 Trans Am with a 305 tuned port injection engine, this Comp Cam 3100 timing set fit perfectly. It was unquestionably a good purchase that I would recommend.
It was not stated that it would only fit a flat tappet cam and not a roller cam.
It's like being able to get a high-quality double roller performance timing chain without having to go through the hassle of ordering one.
