It goes in the 1 o'clock position on the passenger side of the distributor, which is what I did at first. If you have limited firewall clearance, as I do in my 1971 Nova, getting to the bellhousing bolt is difficult; you'll have to remove the header to gain access. Trying to get the bolt back in is a pain, but the bracket fits perfectly. To get it into the hole from underneath, I had to use a rubber hose. You can reach it with a long-handled 9/16" wrench once the threads have been started.
0 / 4l80. It's a nice locking dipstick in general. It is not going to happen. WILL NOT. A combination of an LS and a 4l80 should fit. In the photo, you can see how I cut the bracket off and welded it back on in a different position to make use of one of the head bolts. But, in general, I'm pleased with it.
It also has a top-mounted locking tab. All I had to do was grind off the tab that was supposed to bolt it to the bell housing. This tab simply didn't fit in my space. Aside from that, everything fits and functions perfectly; it's a good dipstick at a good price.
The mounting tab was on the opposite side of the tube from where it should have been. br>br>In a Jeep TJ, I'm using a Gen 3 LS and a TH400. I'm not sure what this was designed for, but I had to cut the mounting tab off and weld it on the other side because the way it was made, it wouldn't work for any motor/trans combination.
However, it is one of the better options available. For my application, the bracket was welded in the incorrect location, and the top part of the tube could be bent back slightly. Inserting the dip stick completely is difficult. Give it your all. The back of the right head is almost touched. It's possible that this is for the gen 1 small block.
My application was installed with the engine and transmission in the vehicle on a 1964 Impala with an original 327 small block and a T350 transmission. This dipstick tube was well-made, right down to the plastic locking handle, and it fit my car perfectly, making installation a breeze. This one uses the top transmission bell housing bolt on the passenger side near the engine head, which was used in my previous dipstick tube. Because this tube fits snugly and the mounting bracket is perfectly aligned, removing the bolt and installing the rubber grommet first would be more convenient.
This was installed in a 1978 Chevrolet K10 4x4 (TH350).
The application is too short (1973 c20 big block). It's shorter and bolts into a different part of the bellhousing. If you have a large block, the bellhousing bolt is difficult to reach. Since it was not worth the effort to return, I installed it anyway.
