Questions & Answers

At idle, what can I expect in terms of vacuum pressure? In a 403 with five heads at 9, I installed this cam. Compression factor of five At idle, it appears to have a big roll. ?

We have a quardajet carburetor, and for circle track racing, we get 12" at 800 rpm, and at 1200, it's a 16" olds engine! Carb is also good for high-rpm racing.

Is it possible to run this cam with stock push rods and rockers?

Maybe, but most likely not without a few tweaks. In my Olds 350, I used the 218/224 version of this cam. The circumference of the cam base circle was 0. Because the lifters were 0.098" smaller than stock, they sat 0. They are now 049" lower than they were previously. Because my heads were milled to zero, I was able to use stock pushrods. I used thinner head gaskets and a thickness of 030". You'll need to double-check your lifter preload to ensure it's within acceptable limits. The steps are outlined in the instructions. It's possible that you'll require longer pushrods or rockers that can be adjusted.

Is it necessary to have a stall with this camera?

It may or may not, depending on the cubic inch. A 2500 stall is required for a 260ci, but a stock stall can be used for a 455ci.

Is this kit compatible with the factory heads on an Oldsmobile 350ci from 1978?

So far, I've been able to manage five heads without difficulty.

This cam looked great at first, and it would probably still be great if it held up. However, it did not stand the test of time. The engine is a rebuilt 1972 350 with an 8. 4:1 compression ratio. one compression, one compression It made great power throughout the entire rpm range at first, with good idle vacuum, thanks to 5/8 headers and a Performer intake. However! At RPMs above 4000, it developed a miss, resulting in two intake lobes flattening. Cam was broken in with Comp supplied lube and high zddp oil, but two lobes flatted in less than 500 miles. Because the ramp rates on the extreme energy series are so aggressive, it appears that this is a common problem. I replaced it with a milder cam from a different company, and it's been fine so far.

For low compression, this is an excellent cam

Put it in a 455 with a low compression ratio and large valve heads. It's all lopy. I am extremely pleased with my purchase.
