Questions & Answers
Yes, a mechanical pump can be used with this cam.
That kit isn't compatible with a Magnum engine.
Keep in mind that this is a flat tappet camshaft, so if you have a factory roller magnum engine, you'll need to look for something else. This cam, on the other hand, is a tamer version. Having said that, without a tune, a factory computer will most likely struggle to run the engine correctly. Please let us know if your engine is a factory roller or flat tappet so we can better assist you.
The engine is a Chrysler LA V8.
Selected User Reviews For Comp Cams CL20-212-2 High Energy 218/218 Hydraulic Flat Cam and Lifter Kit for Chrysler 273-360
I needed to do some engine work on my 318 Dodge, so I decided to get a cam that had a little more 'pep' while I was in there. Everything in the kit worked as expected, with the exception of the timing chain, which was not a double roller as shown in the picture. However, it appeared to be a high-quality replacement part, so I chose it. Everything went together smoothly and without a hitch. The installation went smoothly, and I can notice a significant difference in low-end power with this Cam. Idle performance is excellent, and the power brakes are still effective. With this 260h cam, don't expect a lopey idle, but it did add some grumble over the stocker.
I expected a double roller timing chain when I ordered this kit, but it came with a cheap-looking timing chain. When Chrysler built the 340, it came with a double roller timing chain, and I naively assumed that Comp would include that type of timing chain in the kit. Before placing an order for a double roller timing chain, make sure to check with the manufacturer.
This item will be used in conjunction with a turbocharger.
