This is what I installed on my SBC. To get it to seat all the way down to the bubble, I had to sand off about 1/16" of material. It's possible that I had to sand because of the block I used. The engine came with a dip stick mounted in the oil pan, which I replaced with an aftermarket oil pan. So. The guide tube was never fully inserted into the dipstick hole in the block. The guide tube was slightly less than flush with the top of the dip stick hole in the block when it was first installed. With a punch and a hammer, I was able to force it into its proper position. br>br>After sanding the 1/16" off, I added a chamfer to the bottom to make pressing/pounding it into the block easier. It was a snug fit, so double-check that it's aligned and pointing in the right direction before pounding it in. Also, place a piece of aluminum between the tube and the hammer to soften the blow; otherwise, the tube's top will be dented. I really like how snug it is on me. Some people complained that it was made too big and that they had to sand the diameter down, but it's intentionally made that way so you have to press/pound it in.
Please take this into consideration. This was for a 327/300 CSB Corvette from the year 1964. The original tube had broken at the engine block (I've got a quick removal trick if you're interested), so this was used to replace it. The tube is about 4" shorter than the original, but the engine block connection is the same length. Make sure the oil level lines from the engine block flush mount point to the new stick are all the same length. This was about 1/2" shallow, resulting in a erroneous "low" reading. I made a note and drew a small line in the new stick to match the original oil level reading. After all is said and done, this is a snug fit that appears to be well-made. If a new project necessitates the same modification/installation, I would reorder.
Since I replaced headers, I purchased this to replace the old tube and dipstick. br>After grinding the tube, I did an oil check for the second time and it broke. I'd give a one-star rating if I had the option. br>br>Before this, when the original delivery was delayed, Amazon went above and beyond to get me the product.
I'm irritated to the point of rage. They're made up of two pieces that have been crimped together. I only gave it a one-star rating because it was the only option!.
I didn't take a full seat.
This item was not compatible with the 1979 SBC 350. Because returning was a pain, I gave them two stars. free.
I didn't even use the adapter that came with it.
This is a fantastic aftermarket product that is a direct replacement for the original. It also has a nice chrome finish. Readings that are absolutely accurate.
