Questions & Answers

Is it necessary to create a new fork in order to install this, or can I use the original?

You can use the fork that is already there. I want to make sure the pads are in good shape, with no cracks and no more than 1/4" play in any direction (per the installation manual).br> If any of these signs are present, I would replace it.

My posi lok kit 900 for my yj arrived today. I'm perplexed because the cable has no 'end'. Is that a 'fork rod' on the cable end in the photo?

Remove the fork from your current vacuum shift motor and connect it to the cable, or better yet, replace it with a cast iron one.

The 4x4 was engaged, and the handle had just come loose. Is this a problem for anyone else?

Yes, I was able to pull it off too. I sent them a message but have yet to receive a response. To clarify, there is no retaining screw; the shaft is simply pressed on. It's hard to believe a plastic knob doesn't have some sort of retaining device to keep it from falling off the shaft. As a result, I can't lock my axle any longer. Put a metal knob on your cable, Posi Lock, and at the very least respond to customers who contact you about this issue.

Is this the same part as the vacuum lock on the Dodge Dana 60?

Not unless Dodge uses the same vacuum shifter control box (2WD to 4WD) as Jeep.

However, I was able to get it to work
3/5

The item is well-made and presented. The only reason I gave it two stars is because there was no information on the installation instruction sheet for two of the steps in the installation. br>br>Advantages - br>* All parts came in a box with instructions (more on the instructions later)br>* It's well-made and appears to last a long time if the cable is routed away from moving, hot, or sharp objects. I followed the information sheet's advice and covered the cable in high-risk areas with small sections of hose that I slit lengthwise and zip-tied in place afterward. br>br>Cons - If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be. br>I'll explain why this is mostly due to bad instructions.
* Installation went pretty smoothly but keep in mind that the circlips are %2 ^%& % to install % to install % to install %% They come in threes. br>* The cable can be adjusted at the housing end, and the instructions state that the cable must move the fork to both positions in the housing. You'll have to remove the housing again if you need to make any adjustments. It's not going to work. It's a circuit breaker, but it's also not something you can be certain of once it's fully installed. It would be beneficial to have a video guide. br>* There's no mention that the cable adjusts at the knob end, or at least it does on mine; twisting the knob moves the default position, but the manual makes no mention of this. I wasn't sure where I wanted to put it, so I turned it halfway out to give myself some flexibility. I'm not sure if that was the best course of action. br>br>How did I come to own this kit? br>A cable was already installed in my 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport, but it never functioned properly. I called Posi Lok and found out it was an Alloy product; I then asked if I could just buy a replacement cable for the Alloy product, but was told it wouldn't fit. The parts appear to be nearly identical in appearance during removal and installation. I would have gladly purchased a new cable if it had been available, but I was informed that none were available. br>br>I then dialed Alloy's phone number, which I had obtained from an online instruction sheet, and received the same response. "You can't just go out and buy cable. " I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate or if I was persuaded to purchase the entire set. br>br>In the end, I decided to go with the Posi Lok version because it was the same price and the kit's creator.

everything is in order! This thing isn't going to be messed with
5/5

That cable is so long that I initially mistook it for a garden hose in the box. SOLID IS THE ANSWER. I mounted mine in the dash so I didn't have to use the one screw bracket that some people complained about. It also twists open and shut, which I like. As you engage and disengage, you can add some tension to it. In general, I have no issues. I wish I had snapped a picture of the dash. I'll add a photo if it allows me to update the post later. If you've ever used a low-cost cable like I did, you'll notice the difference immediately. I've only used it for one hard core wheeling day so far, but I'll keep you updated as things progress.

Instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the product performs admirably
5/5

The installation was relatively simple, and the instructions were excellent and simple to follow. My YJ's vacuum system has been repaired, and the 4WD light on the dash is still operational. New bolts for the CAD cover are the only thing I would recommend; the kit did not include them, but I was able to find them at my local hardware store. If anyone else requires a size of 1/4x20 1", let me know.

It's fantastic, and I especially like the 2wd low option
4/5

This is something I would recommend to anyone who has a Jeep with a FAD. Never a vacuum issue, direct mechanical connection, and selectable 2WD low, which is an expensive option if you try to twin stick or use the np231's long shaft shifter. The only thing I don't care for is the cable routing; it's a pain to get the cable to route where it won't come into contact with any moving parts or hot surfaces. Also, by engaging the FAD or not, you can shift into 4wd and then "shift on the fly. " Toyota shifts on the fly in this manner.

The instructions are a complete waste of time
3/5

It's nearly impossible to exaggerate how bad things are. The instructions are a complete waste of time. It's nearly impossible to exaggerate how awful they are. Images are black and white, photocopied, and blurry, and they are written in a hybrid English dialect.

It works as it should, there have been no issues so far, and it was relatively simple to set up. My only gripe is the flimsy mounting bracket; it only has a single mounting hole, and mine keeps wanting to point to the side instead of straight where I wanted it. Overall, I would recommend this product as a good buy. It was installed in an 89 Cherokee with a Dana30 (from an 87) and a 3. 73 gear ratio. 5" lift.

It's simple to set up and does exactly what it claims to do
5/5

It wasn't too difficult to set up. I did as instructed and watched a few videos. In some cases, the directions' illustrations are a little difficult to follow. Apart from that, it's installed, my 4x4 100% works when I want it to AND the 4x4 light works as well! Score! br>br>It's a LOT easier than fiddling with vac lines.

The same as in the city
5/5

Application for a Jeep Wrangler from 1989. It does what it says. It is simple to put together. If you're into that, these are some good instructions. Seriously, clear instructions and a high-quality product that performs admirably. My investment has paid off.
