I've had my 1990 Miata for about two years, and its braking ability has always been a source of concern for me. The brake pedal was extremely sensitive, and if I tried to brake quickly enough, the tires would lock up, resulting in some "fun" press-ups. > lock- > I considered replacing the brake pads, but I didn't want to "waste" them because they still had a lot of life left in them. Finally, a particularly short yellow light at the bottom of a highway offramp (which ends with four of the lock-ups) > release cycles and a car parked halfway across a crosswalk) convinced me that I needed to act. After some research, I decided on these pads because they have a lot of positive feedback in the Miata community and I had good luck with the brand on my old Taurus SHO. br>br>Installation was nearly identical to that of any other Miata brake pad. While I was disassembling everything, I decided to replace the caliper hardware, which I'm glad I did because the slider pin boots were in a bad way. My rotors were in good shape, so I cleaned them up and reused them in preparation for the new pad material. br>br>I should point out that these pads come with all of the necessary mounts and other components for all of the Miata factory anti-lock brake systems. These items, such as rattle clips and squealers, are not included and must be either reused from your old pads or purchased separately. br>br>I take a quick detour to the Hawk website for bedding instructions after installation. Before using the pads, make sure they're properly bedded, as they don't "bite" well unless they're properly bedded. br>br>These pads require more pedal force to stop than my old junk pads, allowing for more precise braking due to the additional pedal travel. With these pads, locking the wheels is extremely difficult. When you stomp on the brakes, you get the kind of thrown-against-the-seatbelts deceleration you'd expect from a roadster. The pads are quieter than the junk pads, and they appear to be less dusty. br>br>I'm so happy with these brake pads that I just ordered the matching set for my rear brakes.
On my 1992 Miata, I replaced the dangerously lame "lifetime" metallic pads. What a significant improvement! They provide strong, predictable braking in all conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and dry. In street use, there hasn't been any fading or dusting.
Product of high quality.
Purchased for my 1993 Miata, it was simple to install and significantly improved brake feel and performance. There is no sound.
