My 2005 Polaris Sportsman 400 had a leaking master cylinder, this replacement unit was purchased to fix the problem. Installing the saddle clamp is pretty straightforward, but when you go to tighten the bolts, you find you have some problems. A short time after tension was established on the bar, the top half of the saddle clamp snapped. It is inferior quality since it has a thickness half that of the original Polaris clamp. Thankfully it was still in great condition and it did not need any help opening and closing. Machines where brake lights are required, such as those with micro switches, have them. The information is not required by me. It would seem to make sense that you could eliminate it, but that's not true. With out the switch, the brake lock pivot pin would fall out since it serves as the retention mechanism for the switch housing. It is a standard nut attached to the pivot pin of the brake handle. You will have issues on the trail if you do not get a lock nut. My only option if I had not been able to solve these issues would have been to return it. In short, it does what it is supposed to do and doesn't leak, so it's a cheap solution that does what it should do.
It comes with a newer style banjo fitting for the brake line. As part of the brake hose end thread preparation, I ran the needle nose nuttap in to dress the threads. I updated my master cylinder with this modification because it was so easy. Using this simple fix, you can use Polaris 250, 300, and 400 ATVs from the early 80s. Every part of the cover is constructed from aluminum. The finish of black powder coat is stunning.
I am very pleased with the fit and performance. I found it to be an excellent value. You need to bleed brakes and install them inside of 10 minutes.
A black left hand and a white right hand for the Hondamatic.
