A coupler is all that's needed. A pipe still holds onto it and it has not yet split. The coupler is about a half inch to an inch shorter than the one that replaced it, which leads to tension building in.

In a Focus ST, this was used as the connection between the turbo and the 2J intake. In spite of a solid rear motor mount, there is no room for wiggle on the intake and the engine runs under torque. It is therefore possible to achieve the needed flexibility with this coupling. Being from Mishimoto, it is of course of the highest quality.
