Questions & Answers

Is there a minimum amount of hard line required to use this? Is there a limit to how far you can go? I'm down to about 0. 9". There is a small flare on the pipe for rubber. Is it necessary that I take it down?

I used it on a sending unit for a TBI Chevy fuel pump, and to cut a long story short, yes, it works and yes, the flare should be removed from the line.

What is the maximum pressure that this device can withstand? Are you looking to convert a 3/8" power steering line to a 6an with this?

This adapter can only handle up to 250 psi, while power steering can reach up to 2000 psi, so don't use it on a power steering pressure line. Earls carries a complete line of power steering fittings and lines.

Is it possible to use these as cooling lines for transmissions?

You can use any 3/8 metal tubing to mount these on. They work best with aluminum tube, but I've used them successfully with stainless tubing as well. Be aware that clamping it on crushes the brass ferrule and slightly indents the tube, making it impossible to remove once installed. Anyway, since I've used them for fuel, there's no reason why they wouldn't work for transmission fluid.

To convert 3/8 hard fuel line to - this is what you'll need
5/5

6AN. Although it appears to be a straightforward task, I've seen a variety of "solutions" for converting a hard fuel line to AN fittings and braided hose. If you have an American-made car with a factory 3/8" hard fuel line, or a 3/8" line out from your factory tank, cut the flare off and add this to the end of the line to convert to - 6AN. A different part number is also available for a 5/16" fuel line, which is the correct and safe way to convert a hard metal fuel line to an AN and braided hose.

It looks good on you
5/5

It performs admirably. On my 1972 Jeep CJ5, I'm using it to connect a hard line (Nickel/Copper) to a braided stainless steel line at the fuel tank. I believe now is also an excellent time to install a fuel filter.

It's on par with the competition in terms of quality
5/5

Fittings are perfect. This was an excellent solution for connecting AN fittings to a 3/8" steel fuel line, with no leaks even after multiple connections and reconnections. The Russell fittings are comparable in quality. I would not hesitate to use any of Earl's fittings in my projects.
