Questions & Answers

Will it start an AGM Optima or any other Deep Cycle Battery?

This has a 12V AGM battery inside, so it can be connected to another such battery (and it does all of the above, whether you're using it to "jumpstart" a car or to extend the life of a deep cycle battery). Just keep in mind that the battery inside this device may not be as powerful as it appears. It's actually a "22 amp-rated" device. Many deep cycle batteries (about the same size as a car battery) can supply 6 amps for 8 hours, so this is about 1/2 the power (and 1/2 the weight) of a car battery.

What makes this one so much better than the others, aside from jumping a car with a dead battery? Is it true that this one does more than the others on Amazon at a lower Amps vs. 1700? , what are the benefits of the 1700 amps? What's the deal with the auto-charge feature?

I simply see these as a battery (about the size of one found on a riding lawn mower or generator) housed in a convenient carrying case. Because it's not that big, I think the "Gives you 600 cranking amps" labels are a bit misleading (and I'm not sure where the "Peak amps" part comes from, since many are 2X the "cranking amps," but this one is 4X). If you'd like, the OEM has described some battery tests that I can share with you (leave a comment). To test it out, I connected a different brand of unit to my car and disconnected the regular battery. The car (a Ford Festiva 4cyl) started, but the starter was slow and barely moving. For comparison, this has a 22 amp hour battery, whereas mine had an 18 amp hour battery. I'm afraid that if I left a fully drained car battery connected while hooking up one of these, the drained battery would "steal" the majority of the charge from the jump battery, making both too weak to start the car in under a minute. So I'm not holding my breath, especially when it comes to a completely depleted car battery (whereas leaving lights on for 2 hours while watching a movie has a good chance of starting it). Feel free to read reviews (both positive and negative) to see if others have made similar suggestions. br>In terms of "what sets it apart from the competition?" Some (like the JNC300 model) have only a 9 amp hour battery, while another I saw had only a 5 amp hour battery. Any 12V battery can be connected to another to assist in starting a car, but obviously a larger battery has more power available and a better chance of assisting in starting a car (but also costs more). br>The "auto charge" is a built-in small charger with a voltage regulator that "stops" charging it once it's full. So you can leave it plugged in indefinitely without risking damage, whereas older models had to be watched and had to be unplugged once full or it would "overcharge." Perhaps the slow charge (which can take several hours) caused too many people to leave it overnight or longer, resulting in "overcharging" and then complaining, so they made it more "foolproof" (at the cost of some additional cost). br>Some OEMs include a USB port for charging phones or other devices, but this one does not (it only has a lighter outlet and cables to connect to its battery). Others often have a switch that turns off the cables and a built-in "reverse connection alarm" (to warn you if you hooked it up incorrectly before turning it on), but this one doesn't, making the battery size almost the only advantage.

Is it possible to charge this device using a portable solar panel?

I charge mine with an Instapark Mercury27 portable foldable solar panel and an Instapark PWM Solar Charger controller plugged into the 12V accessory port; it works great and should easily power a laptop for 2 hours when used with an A/C inverter plugged into the 12V accessory port.

Is it possible to switch out the battery?

Yes, but first test the internal charger. When the charge pack began to fail, I purchased an OEM battery from Amazon and installed it only to discover that the charger controller was not charging the battery. Weigh your options before purchasing a replacement battery.

In my trunk, I caught fire
3/5

Obviously, if I had the option, I would give it a rating of less than one star. My trunk caught fire as I was driving down the road. It was possible for me to pass away. Don't buy anything because you might not get lucky.

Untrustworthy: When I needed it the most, it went wrong
3/5

I paid nearly $120 for it. I paid 00 for this, but it didn't work before I could use it. I had it for two years and kept it fully charged, but it didn't have enough power to even turn the engine over when I needed it. The factory claims to be able to repair or replace it, but they want an additional $85. 00 to do so, and you'll have to return the broken one to the, which will cost you a lot of money in shipping: This is essentially a battery, which is quite heavy - as well as being expensive - to ship. This slacker product gets a thumbs down.

It was only for a short period of time
3/5

When I first got it, it worked perfectly. However, the unit will not charge after three charges and one use to jumpstart my car. Customer service is willing to refurbish the unit for a higher price than a new one. As a result, there has been no reasonable offer of assistance. br>I'd avoid Clore in favor of a more reputable brand.

In a matter of weeks, the person will die
3/5

It's not going to hold a charge. Is a colossal piece of paper. We purchased it and carefully maintained it in a retail setting. Only a few days after the return window had closed, it stopped holding a charge. It should last longer than 8 weeks, in my opinion.

Product is defective and does not work; I attempted to contact the seller but received no response
3/5

This product was defective and did not work properly, and it stopped working after about two or three months, and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. I'd like to return it, but I'm not sure where to send it. Please provide me with some advice on this.

SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED YEARS AHEAD OF TIME
5/5

This 18 amp 12V DC power pack is essential for jumpstarting any size home car or pickup truck, including most eight-cylinder engines. It would be right at home in any auto dealership to jump any of their inventory that has been sitting for a few months for a test drive, auto mechanic shops, and, most likely, owners of compact utility diesel tractors (40 hp or less). br>br>This is a lead-acid battery-powered unit with an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM). Lithium Ion (LION) is not one of the options. A significant advantage, because most LION-powered batteries lose all power at around 20 degrees F if left in a car and gets very cold. Lead-acid batteries, on the other hand, do not (though they lose a lot of capacity at 0 F). If you live in a temperate or northern climate, where heavy cold is expected throughout the year and the cold "kills" your battery, this makes a huge difference. br>br>This is a pro series unit at its most basic level. Because there is no on/off switch, it is critical to keep the clamps from touching each other and to store them in the appropriate holsters. While the clamps are externally insulated to prevent accidental contact from sloppy storage, the results of making electrical contact this way with this type of jump starter will be "epic," lol. It has an exposed three-pin male AC port that can be used to charge it in a shop or at home - You should provide a heavy-duty AC extension cord. br>br>An automotive type plug DC power port ('cigarette lighter" port) is also included, which is similar to the type found on a car's dashboard near the radio. You can use this port in the same way that you would a car port. Connect any DC cell phone charger you have in your car, as well as anything else made for portable car use, such as an AC power inverter (up to 400 watts of supplied AC power). A male DC plug to male DC plug extension cord is also included, allowing you to charge the jumper while driving from your vehicle's power/cigarette port. Place this jumper pack in the passenger area of the floorboard and plug in this extension to recharge or top off this unit while driving. If your car's battery is suddenly starting to die and you're not sure if it'll start the next time you shut off the engine, this is a thoughtful addition. I've had this happen to me with modern car batteries (they're a wear-out item that requires periodic replacement). br>br>There is a charge status gauge on it that can be activated by pressing a button on it, as well as two charging status lights (completed or still charging). A significant benefit is that you will receive an $85, no-expiration, repair coupon. It's worth saving because ALL batteries eventually go bad or die and need to be replaced. This unit is no exception, and if you're mechanically inclined, you can access the internal battery via screws in the back and replace it yourself (approximately $40). br>br>2/2018 UPDATE br>br>Since then, I've purchased a tire inflator air pump that runs on a car's cigarette lighter/power port and draws ten amps at 12 volts. I first used it as a power source by plugging it into this device (18 amp hour battery). In this test, it ran for about 20 minutes, draining the battery by about 25%, according to the ratings. I plugged this unit in to charge it, but the indicator said it didn't need to be charged. (I'm still going to put some power into it, lol). This device is powered by a powerful battery!.

This is a game changer! This is a game changer! My Honda Civic, which I purchased in 2007, has never failed me
5/5

Last week, I needed my car to be jump-started. The other guy took out a different brand of jumper cable and immediately jumped my car. But I was planning to order it because it received mixed reviews. Some were positive, while others were negative. Well, I came across this charger that has a lot of positive feedback, and everyone is correct. This charger should be purchased! Yesterday evening, I charged my car twice, and both times it started right up. I charged it over the course of the night. Then, when they arrived at the car, their charger was not charged. Our charger, on the other hand, performed admirably. The car immediately flipped over. I purchased one for myself as well as one for my adult daughter. This charger is something I tell everyone about. Simply purchase!.

I WISH I HAD PURCHASED A BRAND THAT WAS DIFFERENT
3/5

I purchased two of these. For three years, the first one served me well. After having such a positive experience with mine, I decided to purchase one for my girlfriend when she had problems with her car battery. I had it delivered to her house when I placed my order. She called me while opening the package and then asked me how to charge it when she got it. Because she was unfamiliar with the JNC 660, she assumed the fast blinking charging light meant charging and didn't tell me. She put it in her car the next morning, and the battery died a little over a month later. The battery pack was removed from her trunk, where it was safe and secure, and the battery booster failed to boost her vehicle. I respond to her call by going to see her. I listen to a raddle as I inspect her battery booster. I bring it home, charge it, and notice the light blinking rapidly; I call my girlfriend, who says that's what it did when she first got it, and then I ask her about the raddle, and she says it was the same way when it arrived. When I opened it up, I discovered that the battery terminal post had been snapped. I contacted customer service, who informed me that I would have to pay to have it fixed because it was reported outside of their month-long warranty period. I refused, and when I took it to a local battery shop, they told me that it appears that they sent you a broken battery on purpose, hence the "B" for "Broken" on the broken side. I rarely write reviews, but this has been such a pain that I felt compelled to do so. Now I'm being forced to pay more for a product that should've worked from the start.
