A primer for etching is used here. My experience with it is that it leaves no fingerprints after I etch with Borax and baking soda. Once dry, I used a 1200 grit wet sandpaper over four days to coat four light coats of primer. After coating with primer for the paint, I proceeded to paint! I applied three wet coats and then three coats of final coat. I used fine polishing compound to rub out the last two coats. As a result of this project, I completed it in Novembers. As of now, everything appears to be going smoothly.
If you want to use the same primer and top coat, I would recommend staying with the same brand. I had a bad experience using the SEM primer with a Rustoleum top coat, even though it seems to work well with most top coats. Using bare aluminum as a primer, prime it with the self-etching mortar As soon as the final etching was done and the Rustoleum top coat dried, I applied a Both the primer and the top coat peeled off after a few hours. to both Rustoleum and SEM but neither one had an exact theory regarding what was going on. But they both said to stick with the same brand for primer and topcoat. You may want to spray test coats and let the primer dry for the recommended number of hours before applying the topcoat. It should be noted that the SEM self-reports The problem with acetone-based etchy topcoats is that the SEM might not be thoroughly cured, and this can interfere with the topcoats that use other bases.
The self-etch primer should be used on metal bare. Seal the surface with a top-coat of an acrylic sealer primer before applying the Although I have applied basecoat directly to it with no problems, I cannot recommend it.
I am sure it would, but I am afraid it A product like this is used both to etch metal and to prime it to improve adhesion. With plastic, there is no need for it at all.

My usual standard is not to give a book a low rating of two stars, but I had to in this case. The SMS black etching primer, rattle can # 39673, is available at this location. My research before purchasing included reading reviews, determining the importance of prep work, and reading that it should be excessively cleaned, then cleaned again after completion. After the surface dried, I brushed it lightly with 320 grit and steel wool and then washed it with clean water. There were very few swirls of scratches left on the aluminum due to the sandpaper's use. It took me a few minutes to let each coat dry between spraying them. I shook the can several times as I sprayed them. A good covering of aluminum was achieved after three light coats. It stayed on for 24 hours, but then I went back to see how well the etching primer embedded itself into that aluminum as if I could see the bond of the primer to my fab work on a molecular level. I ran my finger down the front piece with a bit of concern my nail might break as I looked at my fabulous work, and the primer flaked off as if it had been sprayed onto The loss of six hours and $20 is heartbreaking. It was a terrible result.
A horse trailer made of aluminum was primed with this. The first step was to clean the aluminum with denatured alcohol, then sand it, clean it again with denatured alcohol, then blow it off using Next, I applied 3 coats of SEM self etch primer, followed by 5 coats of clear coat Every 10 minutes, you need to apply another coat. Finally, I put a coat of Rustolem professional primer on. Due to SEM's recommendation not to apply color directly on top of self etch primer, colors should not be applied directly on top. After that I finished off my paint job by spraying two coats of Valspar tractor/implement paint on top. There are no signs that the paint is not adhering well to the aluminum since it dried very hard.
Paint from this can goes on far more evenly than paint from a rattle can. In only an hour or so, the color coats can be applied after the primer has dried (three thin coats are recommended five to ten minutes apart). Despite the lack of a temperature range for applying the paint on the can, I have used it in temperatures ranging from 65 to 86 degrees F. It doesn't matter what the temperature is, as long as it's below 80°F. It is quite obvious that paint will dry faster if the temperature is higher. Using a liquid primer for the etching process is better since it is difficult to apply a liquid to a solid The can does not recommend applying color coats directly to this primer (SEM does not specify that a conventional primer be used over the self etching primer), which is consistent with other self etching primers that I have used, which recommend using regular primers This Krylon Dual Primer + Color Coat combination work well when applied directly to the self-etching primer, reducing the overall number of coats of paint required (it dries fairly slowly, however, even when applied in 30 minute intervals). Regardless of the method, proper surface preparation is always necessary. Following a wet sanding of the surface with either 320 wet or 400 dry (depending on how smooth I want it), I wipe it clean with an acetone saturated cloth to remove any grease (denatured alcohol or lacquer thinner can also be used). I wear disposable nitrile gloves to protect my skin and prevent oils from accumulating on the surfaces of the work while I degrease it and handle it afterwards.
While the price of this product may appear high compared to other rattle can paints, this is actually competitive with other self-etching primers when you take into account that it comes in 15 ounces. The amount of product was 5 ounces. It will be in 12-ounce cans instead of usual 12 ounce bottles. A can.
It might be expensive to use SEM paint, but it's well worth it. The product covers and adheres very well. It was recommended that I use urethane primer over the self etching primer before applying the top coat to get the best While I know some people who do not and still get good results, I'm one of them. Even though Rustoleum is a third less expensive than Pledge, the frustration it causes me is not worth it. In the case that you are painting something special and want the best possible finish, this is the way to go, otherwise go ahead and buy the cheaper.
Since I first used it, I have been enjoying excellent results every time! It adheres like glue to any clean surface and is great for use as a primer before painting or just as a quick primer. This primer has lasted longer than any primer I have ever tried when I have used it as a spray on the brake calipers on my Ford Edge without painting over it. Putting this product to use will allow you to get the most out of it!.
SEM paint is without question the best paint you will ever use. If you want cheaper paint, go ahead, but the SEM paint is worth every penny. As described previously, I was amazed at its ability to cover bare aluminum (to be sure, I did roughen the surface slightly with It has an even color throughout the entire The paint did drip a few times at first, but amazingly, once it dried, the drips were completely removed. You may be able to paint with a single coat given the strong coverage given the good Delivery was identical to Amazon's standard (outstanding), but I also liked that each can was individually sealed in a plastic bag to prevent leaks. The tough is nice. You might be able to save some money by getting better paint instead of cheaper paint if the project is worth your time. Excellent product. I highly recommend it.
The product was great, however, be sure to read the instructions really carefully to prevent unnecessary injuries. I sprayed it outside and the wind blew some into my eye, not a lot, but you can imagine it wasn't good. Wear goggles! product, I used it to coat 50 kitchen door handles which were previously chrome and now all have been turned to black! I bought matte black paint as well and it looks great!.
I sprayed the first wheel of the four I sprayed in a terrible manner. This caused my smooth aluminum wheel to turn into 60-grit sandpaper because the primer caused the surface to bubble almost like a bubbling and crack. Spritzing a second wheel produced similar results, but not as bad as the first. All 4 wheels came out nearly completely fine after shaking the can as it was instructed.
Yes, I welled all four wheels the same way.
I wouldn't use this method As a result of the hassle and extra sanding I have had to do to fix this problem, it has been a lot stressful.
