Clean yours and it will work, no problems from the Simple Green, but if you are cleaning an engine, you must seal off all the electrical connections or you might have issues rinsing it with the water you used. But you already know that.
It came with one can when I ordered it in May of 2016. A price of $8 was charged to me. At the time, 91 was outrageous, so $50 is even worse.
The cleaner I would use is one for circuit boards

I really like the stuff you posted. In order to keep my RC trucks clean, I bought this. This is sprayed on, left to sit for about 5 minutes, and blown off with compressed air afterwards. There is no dirt or grime on the trucks.

However, you may want to consider wrapping your electrical wiring as other users have recommended. It was necessary to use a heat gun to dry out the wiring unto the point where the engine could fire.
My personal preference is Simple Green Crystal CLEAR and I have used it for years. In the absence of a gallon jug, I chose the foam as an add-on item since I couldn't get the gallon jug. I'm glad I did it, as it is very convenient and useful for certain jobs, especially the one where you clean the stove and oven. The product would be worth buying.
make sure not to spray it on electrical parts that are vital. Grunge from a decade ago can be removed with one application and a little scrubbing. There are almost no signs of wear on the engine bay.
I am amazed at this stuff. Although I originally bought it for cleaning my engine, after reading the label I decided to also use it for cleaning my smooth top range (it was especially messy I am glad to say that it worked very well. Having experienced this first hand, I am sure it will do a good job on the engine compartment of my Mustang. This Foaming Crystal Industrial Cleaner/Degreaser by Simple Green is highly recommended.
