Questions & Answers
Hello,br>Yes, they are meant to be worn with MX pants. br>Thank you for your question, Greg.br>
Sorry, I haven't tried because I always wear them under my pants, but I believe they are pressed into the frame. Sorry, I couldn't be of more assistance.
It does, but there isn't a strap to keep it from slipping off your knee.
The issue with these knee guards is that there is no strap around the top part of the knee guard, so if I fell off my bike, the top part of the knee guard would break away from the knee and provide no protection in a slide situation.

I've only been wearing these guards for about a month. One of the two rivets holding the top strap connector in place had fallen out during that time. It's now only held together by a single tiny rivet. Because of this problem, I'm concerned that I won't be able to trust this product if I'm ever in an accident that necessitates its use. br>br>The length of the strap is also a problem for me. I have average calves for a tall American adult, and the straps appear to be designed for legs that are significantly thicker. Perhaps they're meant to be worn over much larger protective pants, but I find that VELCROing them into place over skinny fit jeans leaves me with a lot of extra strap. Because of the way the VELCRO lines up, several inches of the strap are dangling from the back of my calves in the wind. br>br>I have another pair of guards with a third strap that goes above the knee. These guards' two-strap system is more comfortable because it allows your knees to breathe, but I'm not sure how well it will stay in place in the event of an accident.
I'm having a lot more fun with these than I anticipated. I bought these after a couple of bad spills at a local MX park left my knees pretty rashed. After reading the reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I don't believe these can be beat for the price. Many people complained about the lack of a strap on the top portion, but I had no such issues. I rode for about four hours at the same track and never had to adjust them. I have Fox Comp Tech 5s with a very large calf portion, and I've never really understood why it's so wide. That is, until I inserted the knee guard. They were made to go together. It was as if Cinderella had discovered her glass slipper. I was wearing spandex compression under these, so I'm not sure how they feel on bare skin, but after about 3 minutes of wearing them, I forgot they were on. I normally would have left a track with ripped knees and bruises from slamming my legs into the dirt bike's frame, but I didn't have any of these problems with these. I can't say enough about how much I like these!.
What you pay for is exactly what you get. These have been in my possession for the past 5 years. Fortunately, none of them have crashed. I've knelt in front of them a few times. You get what you pay for. br>br>If you pay too much, you'll get too little. br>They are comfortable, but they do ride up and down your leg. That is, they do not completely adhere to the surface. I wouldn't want to crash into them. They'd most likely only last a few seconds. br>I still put them on because they're better than nothing. br>br>The problem is that there are only two velcro straps, which are designed for people with extremely thick calves. I'm actually looking these up right now because I'm planning on purchasing something better and more secure. br>br>Here, you get what you pay for.
I'm classifying these as glorified soccer shin guards because they ultimately failed to protect me when I needed them most. br>br>I tried to like them. Don't get me wrong: they'll keep your shin and knee protected. However, only when riding in a relaxed manner. Rough terrain can and will knock these down your legs until they're resting askew on your shoes due to the elastic bands only around your calf. "Just tighten the strap!" you may think. " No, that's not going to work. " Because you won't be able to feel your calf, they'll continue to slide down. br>br>The worst part for me was when I slid on my right knee after a front tire tuck at a low speed. And what was the purpose of this obnoxious contraption? It just slid down without doing anything to protect me. My knee would have been destroyed if I had fallen on rocky terrain. So, Fox, you have my utmost respect. This product performs better on a soccer field than it does on a bicycle.
These are the items I'm referring to: They aren't medieval, but they sure do look nice. br>They feel nice, comfortable, and easy to put on. br>br>There was another pair with metal, but I chose fox instead because it looks cool and has Titan in the name. Only disadvantages: br>br> br>Doesn't it feel strange to be too big? The knee cover went past my kneebr>but not too farbr>br>br>br>The Velcro tabs are their own piece, so losing it won't be an issuebr>Pro: The strap can be adjusted to make it shorter or longer.
They do not make me feel at ease. I can always feel the straps on my leg, so perhaps they would be more comfortable if they were wider. Also, I'm having trouble removing and replacing my mx pants over the kneepads because the kneepad Velcro wants to stick to the lining of my pants as well as catch on the kneepad strap buckle. Just a tad more nitpicking Why does the shin guard extend into my boots is a mystery to me. Because my boots are stiff enough to prevent shin injuries, I believe the kneepad should end where it enters the boot.
Fox makes the best knee/shin guards; all other brands are uncomfortable or don't stay in place. br>br>A couple of minor issues: the strap attachment clips would be a lot better if they had a tab or something to grab onto. Also, I believe the liner should be made of a better material. I seem to notice sweat on my shin guards a lot more than on others. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I'm still convinced these are the best on the market months later - even when compared to the expensive articulated knee guards These hold their position better than anything else I've tried, and staying in position is crucial when it counts.
