This MSR shock cord measures 1/8 inch in diameter. 3/32 inch can be found in the Coughlan's brand.
You should be fine as long as the pole has a clear opening of 3/16". When laying in a non-stretching position, the cord is about 1/8" dia. a state of stretching Remember, you'll also need a 1/8" dowel rod to pull the cord through. Best wishes to you.
I just bought a new one (in-store) last night. The package specifies 30 ft (9m) and was delivered by EMS. I was able to complete 32 feet of poles with plenty leftover using the recommended 35% stretch.

It worked well, and there was plenty of cord left over. Make it easier on yourself by tying one end of the cord to the existing shock cord and pulling both through the pole. That will save you a lot of time when it comes to marking and measuring.
I was hesitant to buy this product over some generic bulk shock cord spools available all over Amazon simply because of the price, but I ultimately chose it because of the product quality reviews and MSR's recommendation for my tent. After installing it into my MSR 2p tent's pole set, I was blown away. This is much better than new and I had been dealing with the degrading shock cords for the past couple of seasons so I feel great about the product. MSR suggested a 3 Simply multiply by 0 the length of the pole. 35 and stretch the cord out a little more. Although it was not an exact science, the poles snapped together very nicely as a result of this method.
It's fairly simple to use once you've watched the MSR or REI videos. On my most recent camping trip, I discovered that the dry winter had taken its toll on the shock cord's elastic; the cord had stretched out, the tent had held for the night, but the poles' inner cords needed to be replaced. Given that MSR's repair wait times average six weeks, I chose to fix the pole myself after 12 weeks. br>Place one shock cord in the package exactly as described. 1 clamp. The cord is long enough to cover all of the sections in my Hubba Hubba NX text and then some. MSR and MSR Shock cord replacement is demonstrated in videos available at REI. All you'll need are scissors and knot-tying skills. Optional: a lighter (for melting the cord ends), masking tape, and a pen (for labeling the poles). It's a fairly simple recipe that can be completed in under 30 minutes.
This is a bit larger than REI's original tent poles, but it just about worked. It's a lot better than the original. I couldn't tie knots because there wasn't enough room, so I made hog rings out of paper clips to "tie" the end to itself. It worked fine, but I should have left a longer service loop so that the loop end didn't get caught on the tube when I disassembled it.
I finished my tent poles but have yet to use them on a backcountry trip. Because it was my first time replacing the tent pole cord, I wasn't sure how much tension was required to be effective, so I didn't stretch the cord too taut to prevent the cord from losing elasticity, at least at first. After my initial setup, I may need to tighten up a little more. This cord is thicker than the one installed at the factory.
Although it was a little challenging to install, we followed the instructions and were able to replace the shock cord on my MSR tent. You'd think the polls would last longer than a year, given how much we pay for MSR tents. Let's hope this cord outlasts the previous one that came with the MSR tent polls.
To replace the shockcords on a MSR Hubba Hubba NX tent, I purchased this product from the MSR store. The cords were simple to set up, and the clip came in handy. I completed the task in under an hour, leaving about 2 feet of cords. br>With the foregoing in mind, and because the replacement was so simple to complete, I reasoned - Perhaps I could have purchased a different brand for half the price. br>Overall, this is a good product.
