These are something I'd like to get for my 2016 road glide special. Do I need to drill my triple trees to make room for the screws, as others have suggested?

No, I just installed these on my 2019 Streetglide Special; there is a small shround at the top that is missing from my stock covers and hides part of the bottom tree, but they bolt right up and look great.

Is it necessary to disassemble the front forks or can they simply be slid on?

To put the fork slider cover on, you'll have to disassemble the forks.

Is this available for a Softail Deluxe from 2005?

They'll work with the existing setup.

Screws are not compatible with the triple tree on the 2016 Road Glide Special

I've got a 2016 Road Glide Special for you. Without making modifications to the provided hardware, this item will not fit. The screws that come with the kit are too big to go through the triple tree. You will need to drill a larger hole in order for the provided screws to fit. I'm annoyed because I asked if these would fit and was told yes. Also, the fork sliders do not fit as flush as the originals, and there was a gap visible on the outside of the bike between the triple tree and the slider.

I purchased these for my 2016 Road Glide Ultra, but the screws were the wrong size

The covers were very cool looking, and if I had been able to install them, they would have looked fantastic. The issue with these is that the screws that come with them are too thick to fit in the mounting holes on the bike; I would have had to drill them out in order to install them. I was unwilling to do so, so I emailed the seller about it. They asked if I wanted a discount to keep the items, but I returned them for a full refund, and there were no problems doing so. The sliders, as I previously stated, looked fantastic; they're made of black anodized aluminum and are quite substantial for their size. These would work well if you were willing to drill out your bike.
