What is the interval at which the reading is updated?

The RPM update takes about half a second.

A red wire wraps around the spark plug wire the white wire ends up on the ground. What is the purpose of the white wire? White wire is not mentioned in the instructions?

A white wire connects the frame ground to the power supply. Bolts that go through a metal part of the frame are included in this category. A lot of parts on newer mowers are made of plastic.

The wires could have been longer, but for the price, it's great

Very nice, esp for the price. Put your hands on your hips and step two more times. If you want it to be extended, you can do so. No problem, I grounded my vehicle's main grounding system and extended what I had already done. There is still a possibility of making the wire to wrap around the spark plug wire.

For my generator, this is a great unit! Setup was straightforward

They arrived on schedule and were easy to deal with. The unit sits on my generator, the red wire is coiled around the spark plug wire five times, and the black wire is mounted to the I was able to start the generator and it worked!.

It has taken some tweaking to get it to work, but so far it has

So far it has worked well, but it needs some tweaking to accurately read RPMs. Another negative is that it will not work without an on/off I found the unit to be a good buy.
