Spark plugs are held in place by the insulator. Ten millimeters is the standard size for spark plugs. As if it were a washer, it is applied. The temperature will be much higher than the oil pressure temperature because it is the cylinder head temperature that is being measured. A manufacturer's suggestion that an engine's temperature shouldn't be higher than 220 F usually means the oil temperature needs to be low. In addition, the cylinder head has a potential torque of 300 rpm or higher.
