I used it in my 2017 Honda Pioneer 700, which has a power receptacle under the hood where you can plug the red plug. Then, on one of the taped-up wire ends, attach each accessory wire harness. I used one to power the on/off switch for my winch and another to add an LED light bar. Running power and ground wires for accessories is a much better and easier solution.
The 1000-series is compatible with this harness. Underneath the bench seat is where you'll find the harness.
I'm not sure about the 700, but it should be the same. There's a red sealed plug under the hodagon where it plugs up. Both the 700 and 500 have the same parts.
Yes, if you don't have it, you'll have to splice very small wires into the ignition wiring to get keyed power to the winch relay. I didn't pay more than $12. Mine cost a buck and was well worth the money.

The connection for this plug is located under the bench seat, where I used to wire a bilge pump to dissipate heat from the engine. To make a fan that could blow in both directions, I used this plug with a blower fan and a revere polarity switch. In the summer, heat is blown out, and in the winter, heat is blown into the cab. For the winter, I haven't installed the vents yet. The fan and switch that were used can be seen below. I got the idea from YouTube user tichendorf.

It's not necessary to wear this harness. Don't be taken in by the pretense. It's not necessary to wear this harness. It claims to have four outputs for lights, a winch, reverse lights, and a horn, among other things. The wire labeled for reverse is hot whenever the key is turned on, not just when it's in reverse, as you might expect. The lights and horn wires are in the same boat. When the key is turned on, this harness only provides four hot leads. When the key is turned on, you can skip the harness and tap into the wire behind it to get a hot wire. You'll have to look somewhere else for a hot wire when the lights are turned on.
I paid $8 on May 26, 2016 for mine, which I bought for my 2016 Pioneer 500. Using Prime, it's 95 cents, but it's now listed for $21. Isn't that a total rip-off? This is revolting.
There are four wires, but there are actually six because two of them are taped with a ground and hot wire inside, and the other two are just single hot wires. Yes, you can hook up stuff without this if you want to splice into your wires, but if you want a clean factory install, this is what you want.
This was used to power the switch for my winch on my Honda Pioneer 700. This was a far better option than splicing into the hot wire for the winch switch adapter. I intend to use one lead for a light bar and another lead for a back work light. It would be helpful if Honda could provide some four-lead instructions.
All of your accessories will have key on power thanks to this little guy. without causing any damage to the ORV's wiring All owners of the Pioneer 500 should have this book.
If you intend to add accessories to your P500, this is a must-have item. Ordering from Amazon was more expensive than ordering directly from Honda, but shipping from Honda was ridiculously expensive, costing nearly twice as much after shipping. It was well worth the money in the long run.
I only used two of the runners, one for a 20" light bar and the other for a 2-foot light bar. LED pods with a diameter of 3 inches It's a lot better than splicing in a strand of thin ignition wire.
