Yes. On his 82, my brother also used the same one.
Yes, this part will fit domestic outboards from before the 1990s. Check to see if your current outboard rectifier has three wires instead of four.

hull boat with a '71 Johnson 100HP outboard motor (a 100ESL71C model) that I won in a raffle earlier this year. When I first took it out on the water, it ran like a dog and couldn't go faster than 14 miles per hour (as measured by GPS). One of the carburetors was clogged, and it was only running on three cylinders, so I fixed it and took it out again, this time reaching 15 MPH. br>br>After doing some research, I discovered that the prop it came with was too big for this heavy, flat hull, so I ordered a prop in the recommended size for the weight and style of boat, and with the 100HP engine, I was able to reach 17 MPH! The next step was to install a tachometer (remember, this is a vintage boat with only a gas gauge) and check the RPMs. br>br>Boat tachs are powered by the alternator, and when I couldn't get the tach to work, I discovered the problem was with the rectifier. It was the original rectifier (I'm not kidding), and the meter indicated a minus (-) voltage. ) leg was messed up, leaving me with a floating ground held down only by the battery. This also explained some flakiness in the shifting because it worked 100% of the time out of the water but only some of the time IN the water . The original clipper circuit was still installed in the motor. br>br>I found this rectifier for the best price online and ordered one on Friday. It arrived on Monday (thank you Prime Shipping) and I was able to install it on the boat the next day. I also used this opportunity to remove the clipper circuit, and I've attached a photo of the rectifier I installed on my motor. br>br>Even with a strong, persistent wind and large swells on the river, it performed admirably, reaching speeds of up to 28 miles per hour. I did discover that the prop that came with the boat was spinning as well, but now that the engine is performing as it should, I can use the tach to find the proper prop for the boat type and size. It was also wonderful to be able to shift properly and finally get up on plane as well. br>br>I'm very pleased with this rectifier; it fixed my outboard motor performance problem at a very reasonable price. I can't say anything about its longevity, but if it starts giving br>br>UPDATED ON THE 14TH OF OCTOBER 2017 IN THE COMMENT BELOW.
Quick delivery of good parts.
On my 1977 Evinrude 55, it was a perfect fit. In a ten-minute installation, I was able to solve the charging issue.
It worked for a while, but it stopped working after a few months. The voltage is increasing at an unacceptably rapid rate.
Fits 73 115 horsepower rude.
It's simple to use, it works, and it's of good quality. I installed it in June of this year and will replace it in a year or so if it dies.
This was a fantastic find, especially considering it was over $100 in the local marine supply stores!.
