Although it will fit the shaft, the retainer will not. You'll need to get in touch with Whygostock for assistance with this.
This fits the 420 pitch grom chain that comes standard. 428 is an aftermarket setup that necessitates both sprockets being replaced. chain.
I bought one for the same reason after seeing a link to this item on the champion blog. I've still got the champion in its packing cage, but I'll let you know if it fits when I put it together in May.
Yes, I'm running it on a 2017 Grom, and they're identical.

I'm 6' 265 pounds and have made a few modifications to my bike, but this is the best. I've got a Cameron Jones ecu flash with a 10k rev limiter, a Hindle exhaust, and a k radiator hose intake mod. n panel filter, but this really woke up the bike; 4th gear is now usable, and I have no problems passing cars, whereas before, even with the performance mods, I had issues passing cars. However, once you switch to the 14 tooth, it's a completely different bike, with plenty of power and no traffic issues. I'm happy with it, and if you're on the fence about purchasing it, do so; it should have been my first upgrade because it's well worth it.
If you're looking for a sproket for your specific bike and it has options for changing the number of teeth, be cautious when selecting one. It is also very likely that the bike for which it was designed will change. Let's say you're looking for a 13 tooth sproket for your Crf 450 and you find one. Then, at the bottom, it will say, "Choose Size," indicating that there are several sizes available. If you select a different size, you will receive a sproket designed for a minibike rather than a Crf 450. You won't be able to tell which bike you've ordered. Until you wait for it to arrive in the mail and realize it's the wrong one. The image is obviously generic, and after selecting a tooth size option, you'll be directed to a random unlisted product.
It will change the accuracy of your speedometer if you put it on a mostly stock grom. With the help of GPS, I was able to confirm that my top speed was around 4 mph and that I weighed around 165 pounds. You'll lose top speed if you load it down even more.
On the 2017 Honda Grom, it was a perfect fit. No issues.
My grom struggled going up hills because where I ride is very hilly, and I am 260 pounds. This sprocket was simple to install, and now I can accelerate up hills instead of slowing down and causing traffic congestion. In addition, he's quick off the mark. This is a fantastic purchase. Be aware that changing the sprocket will cause the speedometer to malfunction.
With the 14 tooth, burnouts and wheelies are a lot easier. With all of the abuse it's gotten so far, it's holding up pretty well.
After installing this on my Honda Grom, I noticed an immediate shift in the power curve to the left. Now first gear isn't so flimsy, and midrange shifting is smooth. The sprocket is heavy-duty and appears to be built to last the Grom's entire life. Any Grom owner looking for more low-end power should get this. My top speed dropped by two miles per hour. That's fine, though, because the Grom's top speed is already 60 mph. This minimoto is happy with a top speed of 58 mph.
On my 2015 Honda Grom, it was a perfect fit. It makes it a lot easier for the Dank Whoolies to pop. 😉.
