I wouldn't use a butterfly toggle because you'd have to hack up the windshield frame to make it work. For a more secure mounting solution, I recommend using rivnuts or rivets.
It's only a windshield mount, after all. The factory mount that came with your CB will be attached to this one. Remember this. To attach your factory CB mount to this mount, you might need to drill holes in it. That's precisely what I had to do with my own.

A trip to the hardware store for some proper nutserts should fix the problem in cold conditions of a vehicle, but for the price of this thing, that is a bit ridiculous. It also says to remove the backing from the adhesive tape, but it doesn't have any, just a foam pad of some kind to reduce vibrations, but it adds no support, allowing the bracket to bounce, so another trip to the store for some 3m tape is in order. I should have just bent some flat stock and made something myself! Overall, at this price, I would not recommend it, but at $10-$15, I would. It'd be fine at $12.
This mount worked well for me, though I had to trim the plastic around the frame to make room for the CB. I used the drill bit size specified in the instructions and had no problems with the rubber inserts. If you have a bikini top that attaches to it, losing the footman's loop poses some challenges, but I was able to attach that strap to this bracket. Overall, this is a much better fit than the other available mounts sandwiched between the driver and door on the dash.
Normally, I enjoy Rigged Ridge's products; however, this time was different. I've been a 14-year customer of theirs. This product, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. Not only does the product falsely claim "no drilling," but the instructions also state that 3/8" holes should be drilled through the windshield loop (which is Grade A steel). The hardware included with the item is of poor quality; The well nuts aren't strong enough to support a CB radio mount and radio. The instructions also state that clear wrap should be removed to reveal the bonding tape, which there isn't. This, I assume, is true of all mounts, as I had to buy a second one because the hardware broke and there was no mounting tape. The mounting of the CB Radio project has been ongoing for more than a week.
I bought it a long time ago and just finished installing it today. Despite the fact that the package and advertisement state that drilling is not required, you will need to drill in your 04' TJ. It then tells you to use a 3/8 bit to drill the hole. It wasn't the first time I'd attached a drill to my jeep, so I didn't think it was a big deal. Despite the fact that it was the exact size hole and I had a good thread going, the rubber stud fit and the other fell through and disintegrated, as you can see in the photo. The hardware is shoddy and won't meet the requirements. As you put it together, it will come apart. It's a real drag. I'll have to look for someone else now. I'm going to see if Lowes has a replacement insert tomorrow.
The installation is deceiving. Description of the product "There's no need to drill or make any changes. " "br>br>Step 1:"br>"br>"br>"br>"br>"br> With a 3/8-inch drill bit, drill out the rivets that secure the foreman loop. br>br>It took a lot more effort than I thought it would. Simply mount the bracket and foreman loop once the 3/8 inch holes have been drilled. The step instructing you to use the long screw to seat the rubber anchor has no effect. br>br>Once installed, it appears to be a good device. I haven't yet attached the CB to it.
As shown in the attached photo, I recommend drilling two holes in the bottom of the bracket and securing it to the windshield frame. The supplied well nuts are insufficient to hold the cb in place, so this will assist in its support. Furthermore, I'll almost certainly purchase threaded inserts to replace the supplied well nuts, which are insufficient. Here's a tip: drill out the factory rivets holding the footman loop with a regular 3/8" drill, then use a center punch to knock them through the frame with a center punch before switching to a step drill. You'll be able to dig a much better hole this time. My footman loop wouldn't fit over the bracket and lay flat, so I used a round file to file notches in the bracket where needed, and it looks like I'll have trouble getting the strap to fit through it when I put on my bikini top. But, oh well, one must learn from one's mistakes.
Great mount bracket, but one of the rubber mounting bushings didn't have any tap threads inside, so I had to finish the installation with a butterfly toggle. br>Quality Control had completely missed this. It took me a little longer to fix this issue. On a 2003 Jeep TJ, I installed a UNIDEN PRO 520, which worked perfectly.
While this product does the job, it will need additional hardware to function properly. br>br>First and foremost, you must drill out the rivets in your windshield frame. THE 3/8" DRILL BIT, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS NOT TO BE USED. Instead, toss those low-cost beer well nuts and replace them with a proper-sized rivet nut (nutsert). Drill the hole to the exact size needed for the rivnut you're using. Other than that, it's a good mount for a small Jeep CB radio. br>br>If you use the rubber well nuts, your CB will fall out. br> I hope this helps.
