The vehicle seemed to dislike deep snow either because I was going uphill or because it is a pain to drive in I made the decision to purchase socks instead of chains or cables since my car is front-wheel drive and lowered. The option of using cables or chains would be my first choice, although I bought these because I found them more convenient to A chain or cable would not appeal to my wife and she is not familiar with the process. My wife seemed to prefer the socks to chains or cables, so I suggested that she use the socks. As a result, my car got stuck in a parking lot that was not plowed, and high performance all season tires did not move it. Despite the dry snow, it was still slippery at the bottom of the hill, where fresh snow mixed with wet snow. The socks went on both drive wheels and I was ready to go in no time. I drove in town for a little while and had no issues with the socks coming off or tearing off. In the future, I may try to use the socks on ice, but I have not yet had the opportunity to do so. It is not hard to install the socks, but if your car is lowered like in my case, it takes a little longer than it should. It's difficult for me to get to the top of the tire in my car, so the socks can't be slipped on like a normal sock. The footwear has to be turned and gained access from there so that I can install the sock. I need to repeat the process in the opposite direction of the wheel so that I can install half the shoe. The sock is somewhat on, so you can begin moving forward or backward to complete the process. Once I have completed this procedure on one drive wheel, I proceed to the other.
Ideally, I would grab a pair of these ISSE Snow Socks (Size 66 for my 225/55/R17 tires) just in case the weather gets bad enough for the State Patrol to set up a "chains on" I've found these to be an effective alternative to chain stores here There could be a difference between your state and mine! These socks fold up easily and can be shoved under a seat or placed in your auto emergency kit after folding. It's also super cool to see the lime green.
