What exactly is the purpose of an eyebolt?

When the tool gets stuck during alignment, use the eyebolt (slide hammer or chains / rope) to pull it out. When you're close, you can bump it into place with your hand. But you're not going to pull it out by hand.

Tool of high quality

This is a strong steel tool. I'm hoping I'll only need it once, but if that's not the case, this bad boy should outlast me. It's almost foolproof for testing your work because it's used to align the gimbal bearing with the engine coupler. If you drop it on your foot, your summer water skiing season will end before it even begins.

I don't think it'll work

Oversized by 030" and will need to be corrected at a machine shop. To align the motor, I had to remove the yoke from the outdrive. It would have been preferable if the tool had been machined to the proper specifications. I should have mic'd the input shaft first, then checked the mill spec of the tool for fitment; if something isn't listed on the specs, ASK before you buy.

Alignment of a Volvo Penta SX

On the Volvo Penta SX, the alignment tool performed flawlessly. High-quality and extremely durable. The outdrive shaft would not go in because the engine mounts on my new boat were too low. With the help of this tool, I was able to perfectly align the gimbal bearing with the engine coupler.
