Questions & Answers

Is it safe to use as a pre-welding cleaner?

NO, cleaning before welding, heating, or exposing to a flame is not safe with this CRC 05090 product. When exposed to heat and/or flame, this chlorinated solvent, Tetrachloroethylene aka Perchloroethylene, decomposes rapidly into Hydrogen Chloride and/or Phosgene gas/vapor (chemical warfare weapons agents), which are highly corrosive, toxic, damaging to human tissue, health, and can be fatal.

(4/1gal), according to the ad. If that isn't 4 stars, I don't know what is. Do you need to clarify 1 gallon containers?

I had previously purchased this item. There is only one container, which is one gallon in size.br>A case of four containers would be a bargain at that price.

Is it possible to use this in spray bottles?

I haven't done so yet, but I see no reason why I shouldn't.

Is it possible to use this to run through the brake system in order to remove Dot 5 without damaging the rubber parts? Thanks?

It could damage rubber parts because the rubber and plastic become so dry that they turn white, but I'd just flush it with proper brake fluid.

Great for removing stains! Why spend so much money on DryCleaning? Brake Cleaner has been my go-to stain remover for the past 30 years
5/5

Yes, that is correct! You heard what I was saying! CLOTHES! Consider it for a moment. If this can get rid of brake grime, a stubborn stain has no chance! Anything washable will also be free of smoke soot damage. It only takes a little to make a big difference. Make use of your common sense.

WD-40 (Brakleen) or WD-40 (WD-40) Something had shifted, and it was not in a good way
3/5

This is something I usually rely on. The last gallon I opened smelled like Brakleen, but that was the only similarity it had to the Brakleen I'd been using for years. This gallon of light amber fluid did not evaporate, did not remove anything, and left an oily residue. Aside from the smell, this gallon of Brakleen smelled a lot like WD-40. It simply devolved into trash, and costly trash at that. I'm going to order another gallon, and if the product inside is the same as this gallon, I'll switch brands. br>br>UPDATE: The water in the second gallon is clear and colorless. Unfortunately, it still does not perform as well as it once did. I put one cap on the bottle- On a 97-degree day, I poured full onto a half-inch steel plate in the shade. After most of it ran off the side, it took over four minutes to evaporate; it was slippery while wet, and I believe it left a residue; your results may differ. It also doesn't touch Dychem any longer, which is why I first noticed it wasn't cleaning steel anymore. br>br>UPDATE 10/23/19: This Brakleen did a fantastic job cleaning the CRC SP- 400 corrosion inhibitor from a machine, which you did a fantastic job with. I'm scratching my head at the moment.

Cleaner was a big hit. This is where the rocket is launched. The 16-year-old fuel chlorinated version is prohibited by the 16-year-old fuel chlorinated version is prohibited by the 16-year- In New Jersey, where only the green formula is available in spray bottle size, use the ounce size can; it works well, but is a little harsher on your liver, so wear gloves. Safety equipment for breathing. br>br>Shipping, on the other hand, is a different story altogether. This was thrown in the bottom of the first box on the cap to take the brunt of the impact. Everything else was contaminated by carcinogenic essential oils. Everything was replaced by Amazon, and I received the second box with this thrown in at the bottom in the same manner. The cap was cracked, but it did not leak this time. The lads at Drunken Three-Five-Five-Five-Five-Five-Five have apparently Amazon Forwarders who have been with the company for years have failed Lifting and Packing 101.

It's ideal for a sprayer that doesn't use aerosols
5/5

On a restoration project I'm working on, I'm going through a lot of brake cleaner in aerosol cans, and I needed a solution. I was aware that the product was sold in gallons, but finding it at my local parts store proved difficult. This is the real deal, and it's chlorinated, so it seems to work better than the non-chlorinated version I'd been buying in cans. br>br>I was a little hesitant about ordering a gallon of highly flammable noxious chemicals over the internet, but the box arrived in typical Amazon Prime fashion. On time, perfectly packed in an air cushion, and without a single leak. br>br>I used one of these sprayers to go with it: When you pump the can, it sprays out with a lot of force, and it's worked perfectly for all of my needs so far. This setup costs nearly the same as a case of 12 brake cleaner cans from my local parts store, but I'm sure you get a lot more cleaner for your money.

Good stuff, but I had to reduce my star rating due to drastic price increases
3/5

It's good stuff, but it was cheaper to use this than spray cleaner, which I used to get at Autozone on a buy one, get one free deal, but they raised the price from $24 to $29. From $80 to $36, the price has dropped significantly. br>br>$58 is now the price to update. A gallon of this stuff costs $95! NOW $63. br>br>THIS IS MORE THAN TWICE WHAT I PAYED AT THE BEGINNING. br>br> 49! Simply outrageously expensive for what you receive. br>br>Below is a link to an older review. This is no longer true, as I now prefer to buy brake cleaner in bulk from Autozone when they are on sale. You get one free when you buy two. They don't have to be on sale to be a better deal than $58 in my opinion. No, it's no longer $95; instead, it's now $63. The number 49 appears to be increasing on a monthly basis. br>br>(Was now back to AutoZone and Advanced's less expensive individual aerosol cans) Was, for me, better in bulk in a compressed spray can than going through a bunch of cans. It is also better for the environment. Was a significant improvement.

This is something I really enjoy
5/5

This stuff is incredible. I'm overjoyed that it was created. In comparison to aerosol cans, it saves a lot of money. I bought a refillable compressed air canister from Amazon and filled it with cleaner before charging it with my air compressor's air chuck. The fact that this fantastic liquid is surprisingly heavy is one of its most intriguing characteristics. When you first open the box, you may believe it contains a cinder block. This has nothing to do with anything; it's just a fun little surprise.

This is an excellent solvent
5/5

This isn't the reformulated stuff in the cans; this is The Good Stuff. Tetrachloroethylene, also known as Perchloroethylene, is the chemical name for Tetrachloroethylene. Excellent solvent with a lot of punch. Use it with caution and good ventilation, as well as a respirator rated for volatile organic vapors if necessary. This is a serious substance that should only be used by professionals and is linked to negative long-term health consequences if used incorrectly. handled. But it gets the job done like no other!.
