These will work fine, but keep in mind that when using the washer/bushing caps provided, the stock bolts will only grab a few threads. Because the stocks aren't going to work, you'll need a longer bolt; 2 1/2" is too long and will pop out the top into the bars, while washers on the bottom will cause the bolt head to hit the frame. Because I couldn't find 2 1/4", I cut a 2 1/2" bolt in half with a hacksaw and smoothed the ends. This worked perfectly, and the bolt is threaded almost to the top of the riser, which is a good thing considering the additional stress on the riser from the taller bars' added leverage. Use Locktite! I only gave it four stars because it wasn't mentioned in the product literature or in the description.
I'd only had my bike for a year when I decided to replace the handlebars and urethane the bushings. It's not the simplest thing to set up, but it's also not impossible. I watched a video on YouTube where the technician removed the top clamp to install it, which was a lot easier than doing it on the bike, and I used a bench vise to compress the bushings. I needed to buy longer bolts, as stated by another reviewer. I have a 2018 Streetglide, and the stock bolts could have worked, but I didn't feel like there were enough threads screwed in, and I don't want to take any chances with my safety. Unfortunately, I required a non-standard size, so I purchased a longer bolt and cut it to fit; however, I am pleased with my purchase thus far.
I couldn't believe how much stiffer my handlebars were after installing these. I bought my bike used and the bars have had a decent amount of movement since I bought it, and a friend of mine's bars on his bike had the same play, so I always assumed it was normal and there was nothing I could do about it. Then a guy I work with told me about these bushings and said they would help, so I figured it was worth a shot for the cheap price they were when I finished.
I was replacing/upgrading bars on my 2020 street glide and thought I'd replace the stock rubber Harley bushings with these. These bushings don't squish down as much as the stock ones (which is a good thing), but the stock bolts didn't thread as far as I wanted/felt comfortable with, so I went to the hardware store and got some stainless 2-inch bolts. They were 1/4 bolts, and they worked perfectly. (An additional note: Bolts that are 1/2 inch in diameter will not work and will be excessively long. ).
The 2006 Road King Classic was held in the United Kingdom. The difference between these bushings and the stock bushings is incredible. I've had my RKC since it was new, and I've recently noticed that the bars are spongy. I'm not sure if the stock bushings are bad or if mine deteriorated over time and I didn't realize it. but DAMN! After installation, there was a HUGE difference. The front end as a whole appears to be linked. The installation difficulty was rated as a 2. I'm a mechanically inclined person, so I give it a 5 out of 10. Anyone attempting this on their own should be extremely cautious of the bars/controls damaging their tank and the headlight/nacelle disassembly damaging their fender. USE THICK CLOTHES to drape the tank/fender, and if you're worried about the bars, a simple trick is to tie/support them from the ceiling (garage for opener track or hooks).
I was undecided about whether I wanted solid bushings or these, but I'm glad I chose these. These bushings, in combination with a one-piece bar clamp with set screws, make a solid setup without a crazy amount of vibrations on my '99 Electra Glide. I installed 12" bars and decided to change the bushings while I was having everything torn apart. In addition, I was able to make use of my original 2. Bolts up to 5" aren't an issue.
Bars have been upgraded to 12" in length. Once you're in there, you'll need to replace your bushings. These poly bushings were significantly more rigid than the stock bushings. Because the fit was so tight, it took a lot of patience to get them in place. Produced with care.
If you're going to taller than stock bars, these are a must-have; they're far more durable than the HD originals. The only drawback is that on my 2017 Street Glide Special, the stock riser bolts were too short, so I had to replace them with 1/2" x 2" bolts. Bolts, 25" in length, are an unusual size, but Menards had them in stock with a chrome finish.
