While the batteries are connected, I always put it on my tractors and other vehicles. It appears to be adequate for our requirements.
A flashing red light indicates that the device is not charging, according to the instructions. If it still flashes red, it could be a defective charger. Make sure your battery terminals are clean, or test it with another battery you know is good. Mine only flashes red when it isn't connected to a power source.
The voltage output varies depending on the stage of the charger's charge cycle and the battery's charge level. I measured around 14 volts as the maximum voltage. During the charge, 2 people were killed, and around 13 people were injured. 0 for the duration of the float/maintain command. As a result, this charger should work well with AGM batteries, which should not be charged above 14. 5 v.
It's very likely that the charger is made entirely of solid state components. It should be unaffected by temperature changes. The battery's performance at low temperatures may be the bigger issue. Turn on the headlights for a few minutes, then turn them off before attempting to start the vehicle. It only produces slightly more than one amp per hour, so charging a battery will take hours, if not days. It's what I use on my Jeep Grand Cherokee, which has off-road capability. I drive this car once or twice a month on the road. When the light is red, it means it's charging, and when it gets close to full charge, it blinks green. The green light glows steadily after it has been fully charged. When it comes to detecting what the battery requires, it is extremely sensitive: When you open a door and the interior lights turn on, it blinks green for a few seconds before returning to green. That's fantastic!.

It took two days to recharge a low battery, but it was eventually done, and it seems to do fine with floating and keeping the battery charged. The length of the cord was adequate, but a more durable cable and clamps would have been preferable. But it's probably to be expected for the money. But here's the bottom line: it works. Recharges and maintains the float of a car's battery. I'm not sure how long it will last, but it's been a couple of weeks and everything is fine, and the box doesn't get too hot.
There are two cables included in the package. This battery tender is extremely effective. It comes with two cables, one of which clips onto battery terminals and the other of which bolts onto terminals. This allows you to use it on multiple vehicles without having to break out the tools each time, and it keeps my motorcycle's battery in good condition. My wife's car's battery had died, so I used this charger to charge it overnight. It was fully charged the next morning, and I've had no issues with it since.

The majority of other chargers are missing them. This is especially true if you intend to install a permanent pigtail. The cap prevents the ground terminal (the exposed one in the SAE plug) from accidentally touching an electrically "active" point, such as the battery's pos () terminal, which could result in a short. Another plus is the charger's 10-foot long cord; The cord length is 12 feet when the pigtail or clamps are connected. Clamps are copper in color, rather than the usual chrome. The quality appears to be higher. This is an excellent maintenance charger at an excellent price. The 0 Amp DC capacity is fine; I use it on a car that isn't used every day. I also have a couple of other high-end maintenance chargers, and this one ranks right up there with them. A++++.
In the driveway, I had my 1996 Honda Accord parked. I forgot to unplug my battery, and it was clearly not working after about 2 weeks, but it is nearly new 9/19. Then I just had to plug it into the wall outlet while I drove away from my house around 6pm and leave it charging until about 6pm the next day. When I panicked, I was thinking (1) that you shouldn't put it in your room or home unless you need it there.
