Questions & Answers

Is it possible to connect these in a series configuration? How many people can be connected if that's the case?

If you want to connect them in series, you must first remove the silica gel from the light strip's surface. In theory, if your power supply is large enough, you can connect a bunch of them in series, one after the other. 5W. Depending on the power supply, you can figure out how many can be connected in series.

Is it possible to connect these directly to the battery cables in the car?

Please double-check that your battery's voltage is 12V before connecting it. br>Due to the fact that some automobiles are equipped with a 24V power supply.

When each light is powered by 12 VDC, how many watts or amps does it consume?

Under 12V DC, it consumes about 1 Watt per pcs.

Is it possible for me to place a multicolor order? One red, one green, two blues, and two amber?

On Amazon's warehouse, they only scan the bar code to ship, so don't expect them to pick the multicolored led for you.

This isn't ideal
3/5

Update 1: br>After only two weeks, I've begun to have issues that make these unsuitable for me. They're a little too cool white - They're a very light blue color, not white, and they stand out too much when compared to other "white" lights. The quality of the construction is appalling. On several strips, the boot covering the wire connection has come loose, and the strips have started to break. Because the gummy rubbery housing provides no support for the paper thin PCB, bending or exerting any pressure on it will break the traces, killing the entire strip or portions of it. As soon as this happened, I yanked on a non-essential item. I tested a working strip and discovered it to be extremely brittle and lacking in elasticity - It snaps at an alarmingly high rate. The tape adheres at first, but after a few days, it falls off. It is possible to replace it, but given how delicate these are, you risk damaging it by attempting to remove the tape that runs along the super thin traces. I'm working in a dry car interior and not stressing them underbody or outside. br>br>At first, I thought this would be fine at $2 a strip, but with such a high failure rate and poor performance, you might as well pay double. Because here I am, just a few weeks later, shopping for longer-lasting strips. Original: br>br>Original: br>br>Original: br>br>Orig This kit appears to be a good option if you need preassembled LED strips for a car (or other 12v project). The white is quite cool (probably in the 8- to 10-degree range). The wire is cheap, but what can you expect for less than $2 per unit? The adhesive isn't as strong as VHB, but it should stick to clean, smooth surfaces for a while; I wouldn't fully submerge it, but it appears to be "water resistant. " br>br>I use these for footwell and courtesy lights at night because the brightness is just right. They're dim enough that you can stare at them for a long time without getting too uncomfortable - I know, it's a bit nerdy. They're also inexpensive and thin enough that you could use two of them in some situations.

It was an excellent solution
5/5

The floor lights on my Jeep were upgraded with these. I'd replaced the dome lights because I didn't like how yellow the floor ones looked. I did soder the wire to a slightly thicker gauge wire to ensure the security of my harnesses. I plugged a couple of t taps into the power line of my plugged-in floor lights, and they worked perfectly. When the doors are closed, it fades out properly. The tape on them seemed to work, but because they were hidden out of sight, I still used a few zip ties to keep them in place over time. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and have four lights left over. I'm trying to figure out where I'll put them so that I can get the most use out of them.

I bought a set of Blue and Yellow accent lights for my aquarium
3/5

I've bought a lot of different LEDs. Because the description doesn't specify whether they're 5730 (brightest), 50/50 (very bright, most commonly found), or 3037 (2 to 3x less bright than 50:50), I assumed they wouldn't be very bright. 50)br>I got it today and used a 12 volt 1 to test 1 random yellow strip. ac adapter rated at 5 amps It didn't have to be particularly bright for my purposes. These couldn't be seen through clear water and needed to at least cast a hue and a little shadow. They were the worst I'd ever bought. I didn't test the other 11 strips because they were such a bargain for an ineffective inferior product that wasn't even worth $7. 8 I'll go over the rest with you tomorrow. 12 setbacks in a single day? Nah, crap is crap. br>Look for led strips that specify the type of SMD; if it isn't stated, it's probably junk. br>br>I tested all twelve and they all worked; my only complaint is that they aren't very bright, even after doubling up and increasing amps. br>br>.

The green glow is nice, but the adhesion is poor
3/5

Adhesion is poor, as everyone has said. I used alcohol wipes and prepsol to clean and prep my surfaces, but after one day, they still fell down. I ended up just taping them back on because I didn't want to risk damaging the LEDs with glue, as some have suggested, so we'll see how long they last; the green isn't bad and provides a good enough effect for what I'm after. Prepare to deal with very thin and short wires during your installation.

They're great, but the wires are a little short
5/5

That's not a big deal if you have wire, and keep in mind that they're closer to 7000k LEDs. Look for a light that is between 2700k and 4000k if you want a more factory or household look. For a more led look, all of my lights are around 6000k. I've only used them for the interior, so I can't comment on how waterproof they are. I'm going to buy another set for the under-hood lights, and if anything goes wrong, I'll post an update.

Working with fine wires can be difficult
3/5

The silicon encapsulation appears to be of good quality, and the color appeals to me. However, the construction with such a fine hook- The LED strings are difficult to work with because of the up wire. The hook- I wanted to make connections with wire nuts, but the multi-strands of very fine wire coming off the LED strings will not support this wiring method. I'd guess the overall size is less than a 30 gauge wire. After removing some of the wire insulation with a thermal stripper, I soldered some multi-strand wires together. To provide some mechanical support to the connection, strand 24 gauge wire onto the wires and cover with heat shrink tube. Replace all of the hooks. To get to the solder lands, you'll have to remove some of the silicon encapsulation. I avoided this route because I didn't want to expose the strip to moisture. In any case, the manufacturer should boost the hook-up rate. Increase the wire size to make the LED strips easier to work with (at the very least, 24 gauge). I'm not sure how these strips could possibly be used in a car project.

For the money, it's a great deal
3/5

For me, it was a poor decision. In my RV, I required an under-counter light above the sink. The adhesive backing on this strip was too thin for that purpose, and it failed after a week. They're simple to put together, but you'll want to use some "glue" to keep them in place. In many applications, I believe they would suffice as indirect or underbody lighting. After doing some more research, I decided to replace my strip with a different product, and I am very pleased with the results. There is no risk of harm. Because the price was so low, I believe my experience with these lights aided me in locating what I truly required.
