It's about 1 1/2 " thick and serves as both a cushion and a heated or chilled seat pad. It can be heated in the microwave or frozen for a cool seat cushion in the summer. You can also use it as a seat cushion when it's at room temperature. We're both average weight (150 and 195) and haven't been able to crush it while sitting on it. It works well in lawn chairs and bleachers. In the winter, my husband uses it to keep his tractor seat warm while plowing snow. I hope this has been of assistance.

I only use mine when the temperature is between 35 and 50 degrees for about two hours, and it still has some warmth after that.
I don't think you'll be able to wrap it around your legs and stay comfortable. It works well for keeping warm by simply taking it and placing it in a stadium seat.

I used to have one of these for my grandmother to keep her hands warm, and she loved it. I bought another one to use as a portable heating pad for my back, and it worked fine until I tried to recharge it before going to bed, and it exploded! The microwave door was blown wide open by a loud bang, frightening both myself and the dog. I've since misplaced the directions, so it's possible that it was my fault. I heated it for the usual 6 minutes, but it wasn't completely cool this time, despite the fact that it had only been a few hours since I heated it. The pad was the only thing that was harmed. It was most likely my fault, so I'm not docking any points for it, but I don't want others to make the same mistake I did, so reheat it with caution if it's still warm. It will keep you warm for several hours, which is ideal for stadium use on cold metal bleachers. I've also used it to keep my feet warm while camping. Little item with a lot of potential.
I ordered a new core, but the first time I used it, it leaked. This was both unexpected and disappointing. Then I ordered a brand-new unit, complete with core and outer shell, which also leaked the first time it was used. I believe there are issues with the core's manufacturing by the supplier. Apart from that, I had a great time with the Lava Buns heated Seat cushion and would do so again if the issues were resolved.
One of these was given to me as a present. I honestly didn't think I'd be using it all that much. At our daughter's soccer game, my wife was the first to give it a shot. She heated it for the required amount of time on both sides. I didn't expect it to help much because she wouldn't be able to use it for another hour or more. It was still warm when she opened it up. It's hot, not warm. The heat provided was the ideal remedy for the freezing aluminum bleacher seats. They're also more than just warm; they make hard seats feel like you're sitting on a plush pillow. I immediately placed a second order for three more of these. One for myself, since the wife was not going to give up this one, and two for the grandparents, so I wouldn't feel bad about being super warm and cozy in those cold, miserable stadium seats.
Yes, the insert becomes extremely hot to the touch after being microwaved, but if you hold the carrier open in one hand and pick up the insert by a corner with the other, the insert will slip right into the carrier and your fingers will never be burned. It keeps me warm for hours, and I love it! I would strongly suggest it.
It stayed hot the entire game and kept me toasty warm. The only issue was that it was difficult to re-insert the insert into the sleeve after microwaving it according to the directions. To avoid burning myself, I had to use oven mitts. It was, however, well worth the effort!.
I'm a sucker for anything that keeps me warm: We've only used these a few times but have had no problems heating them up in the microwave; they are a little hot when they first come out and you're trying to get them back into the seat. They didn't last as long as I'd hoped, but they provided enough cushion to keep your bum from freezing while sitting on bleachers in the cold (even when the warmth began to fade).
This is my second batch of lava buns; I'm a rural carrier who uses them as a cooling seat. After 2 1/2 hours, I'll flip it over for another 2 1/2 to 3 hours, which helps me stay cool during the summer. Every day, I put them in the freezer. They're extremely comfortable, and they'd make a wonderful present for anyone. It's very inexpensive!.
Everything was fine until it began to leak. I've had this since January 2019 and it's been fantastic; however, it leaked all over my wife last night. 5 minutes on the other side, which, according to their website, is just under their maximum rating, so I was very disappointed. This wasn't a reheated dish in the least. Before we zapped it, it was ice cold. I'm not going to buy another one or recommend it to anyone.
