Unless I pointed it out, you'd have no idea it was there. I grew up in the country and have had a few close calls with deer. After a while, you can tell if the deer is about to dart into the road or if it will simply stay put. Today, in the middle of the day, I was driving around 60 mph when a deer appeared out of the woods, far too close for me to intervene. However, he was inches from the road when he came to a complete stop, swung his head, and stared directly at my vehicle - Then I turned around and ran back into the woods. br>br>Last week, I installed a deer whistle on my car. It's probably the only reason I don't have a deer in my front grill at the moment. br>br>The best $8 I've ever spent.

But I can tell you that since I began using deer whistles over 25 years ago, I've hit fewer deer than I did before. Normally, I purchase a two-piece set, but this model fits our BMW Z4 better. This is a nice low-profile, easy-to-mount device; I've used it before and haven't hit any deer with it. Either it's a matter of luck or they're actually effective. In any case; It's cheap insurance for under $10, and you're also supporting an American company because these are made in the United States. Chinese-made ones may only frighten Chinese deer, so why take the chance? Buy American! You decide, but I'm going to keep using them as a deterrent against running into deer on my daily commute.
We've been using deer whistles without fail for the past 30 years. I forgot to put a license plate on my mother-in-law's car when we bought it. A deer came from behind me and hit me in the front, totaling the car, as I was driving to work one morning after having the car for a few months. It was the first and, hopefully, the last time I had to go through the ordeal of that morning. Some deer will stop, stare, and appear frozen, but they aren't darting at my car, as one person mentioned in their negative review. That's how I envision the product functioning. The majority of the time, the deer flee in the opposite direction. Because I bought so many whistles for my entire family after hitting the deer, I believe I purchased stock in this company.
Now, unlike most of them, which are two units, this one has both built into one compact unit. Small and compact, it's simple to set up on a grill or elsewhere. The only real issue is that you should go out and buy some "real" 3M double-sided tape as soon as you get the unit because the tape that came with it only lasted me three car washes. I discovered the unit hanging by 1/32nd of an inch, ready to fall off into oblivion, as I was drying my grill after the third wash! That problem appears to have been resolved since I started using real 3M tape.

I came across this Save-A-Lot and placed an order for it. After you've installed Save-A-Lot, you'll need to restart your computer He had no more deer collisions after installing a deer whistle on the old truck. It converted him to the whistles as well, and he even asked me to order this last whistle for him as a birthday present. As soon as it arrived, he loaded it onto his new truck. br>This brings the total number of items I've purchased to six. One of the first purchases I make for them when we buy a new car is a new whistle. I even put one on the car of my son. They do not fall off once they have been put on. We wash our cars by hand, and I also use automatic touchless car washes on a regular basis, and the bells and whistles have yet to come off. I haven't had any issues with them becoming clogged with dirt or insects, so that hasn't been a problem for me. I like how these whistles have a slim profile; they easily fit in the front grill and don't detract from the car's appearance. Unless you look very closely, you will not be able to see them.
On my vehicle, I have two of these. I spent the night driving through the backcountry of South Dakota and Wyoming. I counted 10 to 12 deer on the side of the road, all with their ears raised, looking in my direction. Only one deer, who did not appear to be particularly bright, attempted to cross the road in front of me. That's where the brakes came in handy. Because I live in Las Vegas, this was my only chance to actually try it. I'd say it worked, especially since I was able to mount two of them on my car. They're small and easy to tuck away so they don't draw attention to themselves. If you're going to deer country, I'd say it's far better to get a pair of these than not.
