What's the point of replacing it? It's not designed for multiple rescues; instead, it's designed for you to use whenever you need it. If you want a tool that is specifically designed for this, you should look into some of the heavier equipment used by firefighters.
Not in the least. Look up "Window Punch" on this site. In an emergency, we keep that first result on our Fire/Rescue truck for shattering tempered glass. Breaking tempered glass with the right tool is more difficult than squashing a bug.
A bracket with a "pin mounting system" is included with the Lifehammer Classic Glow. The pins are designed to be pushed sideways through the carpet on the console's side or directly beneath the back seat (if your car has carpet in that area). Either the console or the space beneath the back seat is suitable. The ability to reach it in an emergency by the driver and possibly a passenger is critical.
The razor blade is referred to as a one-time use item. The blade is not replaceable, but it can be used to cut a seat belt several times until it becomes too dull to cut the material. The package I received did not resemble the image at all. It was small, and it was made of low-cost plastic. There was no black holder to be found. "LifeHammer Original, Made in the Netherlands," read a computer-generated label on the package's back. This was placed directly on top of the words "Made in China" printed on the package. "Royal Craft" was listed as the manufacturer on the front. I have a life hammer that I bought years ago and it's a fantastic tool. What I got appears to be a rip-off. I responded by returning it.
I was worried I'd gotten a knockoff LifeHammer after reading a few other reviews, but I thoroughly examined it and compared it to LifeHammer's actual website and product information sheet, and all of the details and photos match, so I'm confident this is a genuine LifeHammer. I purchased one for both my car and my husband's vehicle. The Amazon product description is identical, with the exception that it states that the product is 8" long, which it isn't. The rest of the measurements are accurate. br>br>Pros: •One side glows in the dark (Make sure the glowing side is facing up. ) You can tell which side glows by looking at a sticker. )br>br>•The handle is long enough for you to easily grip the LifeHammer and smash the window with it. (You should aim for a corner when hitting the window. ) Look at the corner, then move diagonally towards the window's center, hitting it around 3- 4 inches in diameter )br>br>•Easy to use (Pull the seatbelt tight with one hand and use the blade on the life hammer to cut through the seatbelt with the other; there should be no slack in the seatbelt when cutting it. ) )br>br>•Multiple installation options (The two options they offer are three areas to add screws or retractable needles that allow you to mount it on a fabric area of your vehicle. ) Make sure it's within arm's reach when you mount it. If you're wearing a seatbelt, make sure it's in a convenient location. You can also mount the black stand with zip ties before inserting the LifeHammer into the holder. br>br>In the event of an emergency, cut your belt first, then your passengers' belts, and then break a back side window or a window near the trunk to allow everyone to get out.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING! The various "colors" of the products are actually DIFFERENT PRODUCTS rather than colors. I ordered the orange one only to discover that it lacks the attachment pins mentioned on the product page several times. At the time I bought it, there was no mention of this anywhere on the product page. The item may be adequate for its intended purpose, but it is NOT AS DESCRIBED ON THE PRODUCT PAGE BY THE SELLER! I'll be returning this item and purchasing from a different store because the seller hasn't responded to my phone or email inquiries in two weeks.
On 10/04/2020, I purchased both the Lifehammer Glow Yellow and Lifehammer Glow Orange versions. br>br>While the Lifehammer Glow Yellow hammer I received has a phosphorescent plastic that glows dimly in the dark, the Lifehammer Glow Orange hammer unit I received does not. Yes, I am aware that the front side of the hammer should glow while the back side should not. br>br>To put it mildly, my experience with this item has been hit or miss.
The curved, black mount on this newer version of the hammer has sliding pins behind it that secure it to the car's carpet. T-shirt t-shirt t-shirt t-shirt t-shirt The shaped black mount, on the other hand, lacks these pins, so you'll have to either screw (bolt, according to the instructions) it somewhere, or rig something with Velcro or double-sided tape. (According to the instructions), use double-sided tape. Purchase the one with the curved mount that is shown in the illustration. The other options will still be available to you.
In a plastic shrink wrapper, it's just the tool. The handle is a little flimsy, and the product does not appear to be exactly as advertised. I'm not convinced it's a genuine LifeHammer product; I guess I expected a little more for the price, given that it's more expensive than many of the similar items listed. I'd return it, but because it's a gift, I don't have time to do so. Caveat Emptor is a phrase that means "be careful what you wish for. " br>br> I'm not sure what else to say because it hasn't been used yet.
Before the head came loose and fell into the vehicle, rendering the tool useless, it was able to smash out two passenger windows. This isn't a rescue tool designed for professionals.
I haven't had the chance to use this device yet, and I don't intend to. When I drive country roads, however, I prefer to be as prepared and safe as possible. It appears to be a sturdy product; my only criticism is that I lack the space to attach it to my vehicle, where it would be most useful. Of course, this is due to my car's model and interior design, not the device, and there are two ways to fix it. The first is with the built-in prongs on the cradle's underside, which you're supposed to gradually push out. These are razor-sharp, and yes, they will puncture the interior of your car if used improperly. The other option is to screw the cradle into place, which is possible due to holes in the cradle. Screws aren't included, but I'm sure you can find them if you need them. I haven't tested the glow's dependability, but that isn't the product's most important feature.
