1) A lack of quality assurance. Because the sender hole was drilled at an angle, the sender does not sit flush against the top surface when screwed in. br>br>2) Clearly designed for use with a two-wire sender. Because my sender only has one wire, I had to drill a 3/8" hole in the top surface and tap it for an 8-pin connector. To install a ground wire on the unit, use 32 machine screws. br>br>3) I had to clean out the thread with an 1/8" NPT tap because paint was on the inside of the sender hole, preventing metal to metal contact between the sender and the unit, which is required for good ground contact. br>br>I shouldn't have had to go through all of this trouble just to get my single wire sender to work with this device.
However, if you want to use it as a temperature switch, you'll need to drill a larger hole and tap the proper thread.
It's well-made and reasonably priced. Would suggest that the seller/Amazon specify in the item description that this is ONLY for the installation of an electric guage because it had to be tapped. Instead of the 1/8 NPT that came with it, it was changed to 1/2 NPT. So far, everything is going well.
It did what it was supposed to do. The gauge wasn't reading correctly, which was the only issue I had with the product. As most people are aware, this is usually due to a problem with the ground. I tried removing some Teflon tape from the sensor and righting it a little more in the hopes of getting a ground, but it didn't work. When I jumped the sensor to a ground, it worked, so I made a permanent ground from the sensor to the battery, which now works fine and is accurate, according to my heat gun tests. I wasted a lot of time trying to get it to work, so next time I'll just ground it straight from the box.
I needed to add a temperature sensor, and this was by far the simplest method. It's extremely simple to set up. If this is the right solution for you, it fits perfectly and doesn't leak.
I need to locate a location on my truck where I can install this. I won't be able to install this on the upper rad hose because there isn't enough room, but I'll make it work.
To control the radiator fans, I needed to add a sensor. However, in order to fit a standard water sensor, I had to drill out and tap the sensor hole.
Great products, though ordering them was a little confusing because they said they fit my truck but they didn't.
