An alligator clip, on the other hand, would necessitate piercing the spark boot jacket. For two reasons, this would be bad. You'd be exposed to high-voltage sparks, which would almost certainly cause the unit to fail. Inductive pickup is used in this unit and others like it. The unit detects when the sensor wire is wrapped 5 to 6 times around the spark plug wire.
I'm not sure what it is, but I like the little gadget I have installed on a 1981 Honda ATC because it is large and my eyes are over 40. To save battery life, you can completely turn off the display when you aren't using whatever it is connected to.
Simply contact us and include the order ID in your message. When the RPM reading is incorrect, the firing pattern must be adjusted. The firing pattern for a two-stroke single-cylinder engine should be set to 1P1R (default). If the RPM reading is off, try 2P1R, 3P1R, and 4P1R. Until the RPM reading is accurate, that is.
3P1R is the recommended spark pattern.

Unfortunately, the tach I had previously would not work with three-cylinder outboards, which is what I now have, which is why I purchased this tach. I connected it to the rest of the tachometers in the same way as the instructions stated. When I started the engine and properly programmed it, the readings were surprisingly accurate. My problem is that when my outboard exceeds 3900 RPM, the tach drops and shows 1700-2000 RPM. 1900 rpm. I have tried everything I can but this tach just won't work on my outboard above 3900 RPM and I am stuck with it. If I cruise along at 2/3 throttle, my engine is around 3800 RPM and everything works fine. I'm going to toss this unit and replace it with a tach designed specifically for marine use.
Five of these were purchased by me. 3 have performed admirably when dry and have worked flawlessly. On a boat, the last two were used in a Honda EU2000 portable engine. These are rated to be waterproof to the extent of IP65. The qualifications are as follows. IP65 Enclosure - **************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Protected against water projected from a nozzle with an IP rating of "dust tight. " IP66 Enclosure - IP66 Enclosure is a type of enclosure that is used to protect electronic equipment from the elements. IP rated as "dust tight" and resistant to rough seas or powerful water jets. IP 67 Enclosures - IP 67 Enclosures - IP 67 Enclosures - IP 67 Enclosures The IP rating is "dusttight" and the device is waterproof. at depths of 150mm for 30 minutes - Enclosures with an IP rating of 68 mm - 1000mm br> IP rated as "dust tight" and protected from complete submersion in water for an extended period of time. Both of these were used in light rain, resulting in a blurry and unreadable display. At first, I assumed the first one's battery seal had been compromised. The second one was bought. The genset on the bow of the boat was running under moderate rain this past weekend. Because of the IP65 rating, I didn't expect this to be an issue. The display, on the other hand, did not work. I used compressed air and a heat gun to try to dry out the insides; It recovered to some extent. On the led screen, the digits appear as full 8s. br>If kept dry, this hour meter functions well. If not, look for one that is rated IP67.
br>The size of the display is ideal, and it is simple to set up. To set up the menus, there is an excellent manual.
This was purchased to go with my new 9000 watt generator. Installing it was a breeze, and the user instructions were clear. I use this meter to check RPM when my generators are tuned to exactly 60hz, and I check RPM every time I start it up to make sure it's where it should be. It's a lot more convenient than sprinting to get my Kil- Watt meter is a device that measures the amount of energy that is In addition, the new generator requires that you modify the break-in procedure. After the first three hours of running in oil, this meter tells me how long it's been running so I know when those three hours are up, which is a lot easier than using paper and pencil and a watch, and it'll also tell me when oil changes are needed in the future. It has some functions I'll never use, but it's good to know they're there just in case. It also lights up so you can see it at night. If I had to pick a flaw, it would be the fact that I seriously doubt this meter would survive a rainstorm outside. It doesn't bother me because my generator is kept in its own shed and runs dry even during a storm, but if you put this on a motor that stays in the back of a truck, you'll be sorry. I'm going to get a couple more for my lawn tractor and my 4-wheeler. One is for the wheeler, and the other is for the push mower. Heck, I'm thinking about putting one on my string trimmer so I can start charging my neighbors by the hour to mow their lawns! They are both inexpensive and effective.
Having a battery that can be swapped out is a plus. It has an advantage over others because it is water resistant without requiring user modification. But when you consider how much less expensive it is and how many program options there are, it's a no-brainer. This is the one you should purchase. Install one of these and think about wire routing and visibility if you really care about your lawn equipment and want the added benefits of knowing RPMs and maintenance schedule data. The numerous advantages it provides will make you happy. br>br>At the time I bought this unit, I did some research on other manufacturers' offerings on the market and decided on this one - In terms of value for money, this is a great option. I only wish that more American companies produced devices like this. But until we see that, we'll have to wait. Consumers have the right to purchase the superior mouse trap regardless of where it is manufactured.
Having a Honda 215 mower in my basement for years and never using it proved to be expensive. I suspected then just not opening it because it said it opened wide had it gotten there, I knew something was wrong. I wasn't aware, just didn't remember, then just left.
It works great on a Honda EU2200I invertor generator if you follow the instructions, but you will need to use Pl2 for this generator to get the rpms to work properly. I like how easy it is to change the battery and mount the meter, and how thick the wire cord is to wrap around.
