Questions & Answers

Is it possible to have white backlighting?

It would be extremely difficult to disassemble and reassemble this unit without causing damage to the housing. This unit is not designed to be disassembled; however, if your factory gauges have been changed to white, there are other AutoMeter models available with white back lighting.

This is a nice gauge for a Ford vehicle, with an accurate boost gauge
5/5

On two separate 7's, I installed this gauge. Excursions for 3rd graders It was easy to set up both. br>br>When running the vacuum line, the most important thing to remember is to "feed" rather than "pull" it through. If you pull this line through your dash, it will kink in you. br>br>I ordered a 45-degree fitting, which made it easier to run the vacuum line, but the gauge was still extended past the pillar mount, exposing the white portion of the gauge housing. br>br>I shaved the pillar mount slightly with a rounded file to make room for the black electrical tape I used to cover the white housing. br>br>This fit snugly around the pillar mount and completely obscured the gauge's white portion.

For the 6, this is an excellent gauge
5/5

For the 6, this is an excellent gauge. There is no powerstroke. Because the motor's maximum boost is around 27 psi, the range is ideal. I used to use a 60 psi gauge, but it wasn't as accurate as this one. I also like how it has a nice factory look to it and doesn't appear to be something you'd put in your Civic. The gauge is easy to read at night, but it isn't too bright. The background color is identical to that of the factory cluster gauges. It's simple to install, but you might want to look for instructions on a forum because the ones that come with it aren't specific to your vehicle. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and plan to order the fuel pressure gauge from this site soon.

What you pay for is exactly what you get
4/5

The gauge appears to be of excellent quality. Much better than another brand's $29 offerings, which I used to buy on a regular basis. Action is fluid. Backlighting that stays the same. This is a nice mounting bracket. Note. The backlight has a constant brightness that is not affected by the oem dash dimmer. I'm using it with onboard air for rear air springs ranging from 5 to 15 pounds. 20 psi. To keep the needle from bouncing up and down during suspension motion, some inventive plumbing was required. Because of the price, I'm hesitant to add a gauge, but if it's worth it, I believe this brand is the best option.

The gauge is a fantastic tool
4/5

A 45-degree angle is required. The gauge is a fantastic tool. A 45-degree angle is required. In order for the 1/8 npt adapter on the gauge's pressure port to fit in the gauge pod, all thread studs on the right hand side of the gauge must be shortened to allow the gauge to seat squarely and completely into the pod. The light dims as well.

It really works
5/5

It is a perfect match. It's a perfect match for a stock Ford F250 from the year 2000. It really works. It certainly does not appear to be a ricer gauge.

A shorter adapter is required
4/5

It performs admirably. The only issue was that the back fitting for the hose requires an adapter that they provide, but it sticks out far too far, causing the gauge to not sit flush in the pod.

GlowShift Single Pillar Gauge Pod for 1999-2000 is not compatible with this item
4/5

2002 Installed on my 2001 7, gauge works as it should. It took 30 minutes to complete number 3. Running the supplied nylon tube from the firewall up under the dash to A- was the most difficult part. Pillar. I'm not sure if it's accurate. I bench tested my stock wastegate and found that it began bleeding off at 5 psi and was fully open at 17 psi, as indicated by the gauge while driving. Install both ends of the tubing with the brass ferrells over a large tray of some sort, because you will drop the ferrell, and if you have a gravel driveway like me, you will spend an hour straining your eyes trying to find it. br>br>I placed an order for a Tan glow shift single a-. I chose the pillar mount pod because it was less expensive than the Autometer 15318 pod and was already color-matched to my interior. It wasn't even close to being a good fit. Before I even attached the adapter and tubing, the air inlet on the gauge hit the inside of the pod. br>br>I inquired on the Autometer website as well as calling them. I inquired about the compatibility of the 8404 Boost gauge with the 15318 pod. They assured me that it would be a good fit. I'm going to place an order and leave a review on that part's webpage as well as this one. br>br>Creative+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ br>br>The Autometer 8404 boos gauge is not compatible with the 15318 pillar pod. It's incredible. With the brass fitting, this gauge is so long that I'm not sure it'll fit in any pod that looks half-decent.

That's not so good
3/5

Although the gauge itself is attractive, the tubing that comes with it is 1/8" plastic and is tightly coiled in the package. The tubing wants to stay coiled, so it kinks in about 50 different places while being straightened to install it, cutting off the pressure from the gauge. I discovered that the gauge would not fit far enough into the AUTOMETER pillar mount when I tried to install it. Because the compression fitting where the tubing attaches is at the bottom of the gauge, it sticks out about an INCH from being flush. The pillar mount curves up at the back where the gauge's bottom is, causing the tubing to kink off and prevent the gauge from going into its own mount. br>I went to the autometer website and found an installation guide with photos for my specific vehicle. They show how an adapter piece, essentially a 90-degree fitting, is required in their guide after discovering that their gauge doesn't even fit in their own mount. The gauge, of course, is not included in the fitting. I went out and got the fitting, but the gauge is still too big to fit in its own mount. I almost forgot to say that there are pieces of everything. Threads protruding from the back of the gauge must be cut away before the gauge can be installed. It won't go all the way into its own mount, though. I fiddled with the fitting's orientation and still can't get the gauge to fit completely into its mount. Finally, I rotated the gauge 45 degrees, which allowed it to go in further, but it still sticks out 1/8 to 1/4 inch, and it's now crooked, despite the fact that all the other gauges are straight. There would have been no problem if the compression fitting had been placed at the top of the gauge rather than the bottom. So I'm a little disappointed that Autometer designed a gauge that won't even fit in a mount they designed for a specific vehicle. I would suggest purchasing Isspro gauges, and I intend to do so the next time I purchase a vehicle.
