Questions & Answers

Will a silicone vacuum hose with an inner diameter of 1/8" and a 3mm inner diameter work in place of the supplied plastic line?

Yes, a silicone vacuum hose with an inner diameter of 1/8" and an outer diameter of 3mm should work fine with this gauge.

Will the supplied fittings fit into one of the two plugged holes in the top of a GM '93 6's intake plenum? How about five turbodiesels?

(1) adapter for connecting the kit's nylon tubing to a 1/8 NPT hole, and (1) adapter for converting a 1/4 NPT hole to a female 1/8 NPT thread are included in the Bosch SP0F000050 Style Line Mechanical Boost Gauge Kit. If you need larger NPT pipe thread adapters, you can get them at an auto parts or home improvement store.
2. The Bosch SP0F000009 Metric Adapter Kit is available if the plenum holes have metric threads. Adapters are included in this kit to convert M10, M12, M14, and M16 metric threaded holes to female 1/8 NPT threads for use with the SP0F000050 Boost Gauge Kit adapter.

What color does the backlighting appear to be?

Only a standard colored bulb is included. The color white has a slight yellow tint to it. Take care when using the vacumm tubing that comes with it. It has a brittle texture to it.

Is it possible to connect this gauge to a 1/4-inch line coming from a mbc (off of "t")? What type of gauge fitting do you have?

This gauge can be connected to a tee off the intake or forced intake tubing, though I'm not sure what MBC stands for. Thank you for contacting me with your query.

Bosch, of course, is Bosch
3/5

This is a perfectly good vacuum/boost gauge from the standpoint of a gauge. It's useful for keeping track of your engine's health and other such things. Because I'm waiting to install a digital gauge in the cabin, I decided to mount mine under the hood. There are no issues with this arrangement other than the fact that I had to hack off the stupid bulb holder due to a lack of space. br>br>The problem comes in when you try to attach the gauge to something. Bosch has decided to reinvent the wheel by providing cone fittings for their microscopic rock hard hose, for whatever obnoxious reason. For the average car, this isn't very useful. Rather than driving angrily to your favorite store in the hopes of finding a better nipple fitting, you can get around the problem with a quick hack. Cut about 2" of the filthy plastic hose and connect it to the gauge as usual. Now cover it with your regular 3mm/4mm vacuum line. The issue has been resolved.

It's inaccurate, but at the very least it's consistent
3/5

"Wow!" I thought when I first connected it. I'm glad I got this because I had no idea I had a small vacuum leak until now. " After wasting time looking around, I remembered that the EFI MAP reading appeared to be normal, so I connected an accurate vacuum gauge and confirmed that everything was as it should be. As a result, this gauge only shows about half of the true vacuum, rendering it useless for my purposes. Being off by so much cost a lot of money. Even though a boost/vacuum gauge isn't the best tool for measuring just vacuum, I'm still disappointed.

a good metric However, I wouldn't put my money on it not being a knockoff
4/5

Most good gauges cost twice as much as this one, but it's still working after three months and fifteen thousand miles. It has a good fit and finish. My only complaint was the lack of a long vac/boost line, which I had to run close to the turbo and promptly melted. I could run it further away if I had a longer line. Knowing my boost range was extremely beneficial in terms of avoiding overheating and grading.

The instructions for installing the fittings for were simple enough to follow
3/5

The instructions for setting up the fittings for the vacuum line were simple enough to follow, but the line that comes with the gauge is of poor quality, stiff and coiled, making it difficult to plumb through the firewall and dash. The light that comes with it is also not very bright, a dim amber that mostly illuminates the gauge's outer ring, but it's not difficult to replace with an LED. Overall, it's a good gauge.

It appears to be in good condition, and the vacuum works properly
3/5

It appears to be in good condition, and the vacuum works properly. My car boosts at 9 psi and the gauge reads 12, which is to be expected for a $20 gauge. If you want an accurate boost gauge, you'll have to spend $100, but if you just want to keep track of your boost and vacuum, it'll suffice. This was only to eliminate a boost leak from my old gauge, which I'll be upgrading in the near future.

I love this gauge; I used to have a VDO and while the VDO was a little slow to react, this one is spot on; you can see every movement of the throttle in the needle
5/5

It does not suffer from vacuum or boost sputter, which is the typical vibration of the tip of the pointer needle that requires a softening actuator or muffler in some other gauges. br>br>Mine is on a Volvo V50 with two engines. 5 liter turbocharged engine.

For the money, this is a fantastic gauge! This is exactly what I needed for my Land Rover Defender 110 turbo diesel, and it works perfectly
5/5

According to the factory boost and wastegate settings, it appears to be accurate! I'll only run 14 psi of boost in this truck, so a 20 psi gauge is ideal. There are no issues.

Accurate
5/5

To put it plainly, It's dead on. I put it through its paces in the lab, and when compared to certified pressure/vacuum gauges, Bosch came out on top. br>Easy to connect. The only thing that could be improved is the lighting. br> The numbers are painted rather than "see through. ".
