It is not a tachometer, as the name implies. The hour meter indicates that the spark plug is on fire. Wrap the black wire provided with the meter three or four times around the spark plug wire to the engine, then insert the other end of the wire into the meter's slot. When the engine is running, the little hourglass will indicate that the meter is working and will begin to record the number of hours the engine has been running in 1/10 increments. The meter stops recording when the engine is turned off, which is why their description uses the term "automatic shutdown."
Hello. Changing the battery after three years is difficult. Thanks.
If you want, you can cover the wire on the back with a piece of tape. It's not necessary because the wire fits snugly into the groove. To secure it, use a small flat head screwdriver to push it into the groove; once it's there, it won't move.
It is, in fact, water-resistant. Factory-sealed condition.

For my Champion 2500 Watt Inverter Generators (Model 200951), I bought two of these inductive hour meters. It appears to be a high-quality product; it came with small screws for mounting to the generators, but I chose to use Scotch Fasteners instead. To run the wire up from the Spark Plug Wire, I had to drill a small hole in the Spark Plug Access Cover, making sure to leave enough slack in the wire to allow me to remove the cover without difficulty. Before securing the wire attached to the Spark Plug Wire with zip/cable ties (not supplied), make sure it isn't touching anything hot. There were two ties in total. It really works!.
My single generator is left outside in the rain, sleet, and snow. has about 7500 hours on it after 6 years of use, and the hour meter is still working after 6 years of exposure to the elements.
It worked perfectly and was incredibly simple to set up. There is no brand logo, no instructions, and no packaging on these. For a lower price, you can get the same product in a bag. Installation videos for an inductive hour meter can be found on YouTube. Wrap the supplied insulated wire around the outside of a sparkplug wire three to four times and secure it with wire wraps (not supplied). The other end of the wire slips into a slot in the meter unstriped. Then find a place to mount the meter that is approximately 1"x2" (screws provided).
One was for a Husqvarna leaf blower and the other was for a new Honda motor for an old Troy built tiller. I intend to buy a second twin pack to power a generator and a log splitter. It makes it easy to maintain machinery. It's simple to set up!.
There is no tachometer, despite the fact that the description claims otherwise. Although it functions well as an hour meter, I believe I have squandered my money.
I purchased the two-pack to use with two different lawnmowers. This is a fantastic solution. The only drawback is the wire's length, which I wish was about 10 inches longer.
One is on my dirtbike, and the other is on my quad. So far, I've spent an hour on my dirtbike and two hours on the four-wheeler. I had no problems transitioning from trail riding to motocross.
These are simple to use and count the number of hours spent on your machine.
