Organizers or bags would lose their rigidity if they did not fold down. On both sides, the organizer includes a middle divider that is securely stitched into place. Side walls of the inner rooms. This middle divider is attached to the sectioned (or smaller compartment separator) with two snaps. With this smaller separator/divider, two medium compartments can be added to the side by unsnapping it. In order to achieve one large open box, you would have to modify the organizer yourself. Since I first got my car, I have been trying to find ways to increase the storage space. Everything in my car always takes up more space than I can find a place for it. Unless you count the three cups on a cup holder, there are only one or two! The trunk organizers I saw on sale always sounded like they made little sense. I thought they were either too big to fit in my front and rear seats, or too small for the trunk. Also, things inside would probably tip over anyway if I put their in there. The thing is really really handy. I don't know if I was skeptic, but this has really been useful for me. The harnesses on this one are like none I have seen before. Having it break down exactly to fit my front passenger seat when driving solo for work is the ultimate for me. After I have harnessed it around the seat back, I buckle it up. There's a lot to love about this part, and I can testify to the fact that the design works well. The following are my comments on the overall look and feel of the project. Please be patient. I'd prefer the smaller black mesh pockets to be more open, but they do hold glasses and keys, but not my files.
