My sliding door's slick lock had become jammed. Several people, including the owner of the auto shop behind us, attempted to unlock it. They tried using heat to loosen it up after removing the rubber cover, but in the end, they had to drill out the lock because it still wouldn't come off, so they had to cut off the bracket with a recip saw. The sliding bracket was causing me problems before this product failed catastrophically. It worked fine for about two weeks before it began to report that the sliding door was open, which was extremely inconvenient because it made a loud beep every time you stopped and started moving. I had to press down hard on the door contacts and press the keyfob lock button in order to use the main door locks. I tried adjusting every thing about it for more than a couple of hours and it still wouldn t let the door close 100%. I removed the bracket because it was cut off and useless, and my door shut fine. br>br>I'm not sure why mine failed. If I had to guess, I'd say the locks are manufactured at a lower cost. My previous truck had a different brand of metal puck lock, which felt significantly heavier and more durable. These were something I was really hoping would work. I've had all of my tools stolen before, so I appreciate the added security, but it's not a good product when the lock malfunctions and won't let you in; luckily, we had the tools to remove it.
So far, it's working well, but more paint protection film is needed. I purchased some 3M tape (6"x24") and cut it to fit both sides of the lock. The provided film (2 half circle pieces the size of the lock itself) is pretty useless in terms of preventing key scratches and other issues. Alternatively, I should remember to rotate the spinners to the proper orientation BEFORE the freezing rain falls. br>br>A small butane torch might be useful as well. Any moisture that enters the spinner freezes, making it impossible to remove the locks until they thaw.
It worked fine at first, but I believe something in the door was preventing it from making contact with the sensor that informs the van computer that the door is closed. As a result, whenever I drive up a hill or over a bump, the van emits a ding and indicates that the sliding door is open. It's a real pain. Now it appears that the side sliding door does not close completely. In addition, unless I press on the door to make contact with the sensor, the van will not lock with the wireless key. It is necessary for me to remove it. It was a waste of money.
It was relatively simple to install the back doors. I'm the proud owner of a low-mileage 2017 Ram Promaster. Roof and locks fit perfectly; alignment took a few tries to get right, but after that everything went smoothly. This is a product that I can recommend.
It had to be cut off by a locksmith. I emailed the company but received no response. After a month of normal use, the key snapped in the lock. It had to be cut off by a locksmith. Slick Lock was emailed, but no response was received. We lost several days of work and money as a result of this. In our attempts to contact the company (Slick Lock), we would have liked to receive at least some sort of response. Unfortunately, I am unable to recommend this product. Keys that are very thin and weak.
The locks are simple to install and light in weight, but they appear to be secure enough.
The back doors were particularly difficult to install, necessitating the use of a unique socket and tin snips. It's also a good idea to apply some grease to the metal. Overall, I like how it turned out.
I was desperate for these to work, and I needed them to. The rear door lock brackets, on the other hand, are compatible with the vehicle. When the door is opened, the side bracket drags on it. Double doors cannot close completely without the use of back door brackets. Shame.
