Selected User Reviews For UnderCover SwingCase Truck Bed Storage Box | SC300D | Fits 2002-2018, 2019-21 Classic Dodge Ram 1500, 2003-21 2500/3500, Drivers Side

It's a fantastic concept, but it'll never work
3/5

With 4 2" ratchet straps and up to 4 1" light duty straps at times, it weighs up to 50lbs, including the weight of the box, and has been under a bed cover since new. The mounting bracket's top hinge point has broken, the box has a crack on one side, and the self-threading mounting bolts cracked the bedside's upper hole and pulled loose on the latching end. Great concept, but there's no way it'll hold up to 75 pounds in it when it's moving, or even if it's stationary and never leaves the driveway. This is the box for you if you need a place to put your wife's flip flops, Kotex, and possibly a swimsuit.

Not for use with real tools or in real-world situations
3/5

It's a great idea, but not for a work truck. They'll almost certainly hold some extra towels and light weight items that you don't want rolling around your bed if you use your truck primarily for commuting, tailgating (truck cap, carpet liner, etc. ) and other suburban activities. Filling them with beer cans is a bad idea because they won't be able to support the weight! br>I make a living with my trucks. I installed these on my 2016 Ram 3500 within 6 months of purchasing it, for towing, dirt roads, and heavy payloads, among other things. I needed tool storage for the first short bed I'd ever owned, so I looked for something that wouldn't make the bed any shorter. I was unsure about the plastic's workability, but when I saw the 75-pound capacity per box, I thought, "That's plenty of capacity. " My assumptions were incorrect. If you're curious about what I kept in them, here's a list:
Left: Spare 2. The nose has a 5" receiver hitch with ball, two 2"x27' ratchet straps, a 14" crescent wrench, and some bungee cords. br>Left: br>Left: br>Left 5 pound hammer, 3"x25' tow strap, small plastic tool box containing electrical tools, and some small (1"x8'? In the nose, there are a few hitch pins and some ratchet straps. Despite the fact that they weigh less than a sack of grain (50 pounds), the right one developed a large crack in the back and the bracket that catches the latch on the truck body had broken one of the two pieces of plastic that secured the bracket to the box during the first year. br>When I called the company, the representative was grumpy and accused me of overloading the boxes, but she eventually sent me a replacement with the terse "This is a one-time courtesy" warning. br>So I put the new box (which came with all the hardware) on the existing mount/latch and carried on with my life, until the top hinge pin on that mount broke off about a year later. Thankfully, the replacement hardware from the replacement box was still in my possession. I replaced them and continued on my way. br>About 6 months later, the left-hand box failed in the same location as the first right-hand box. The latching mechanism separated (broke) from the box, as it had on the original right, but there was no crack on the back of the box. So, I've been told I don't have any legal recourse against the company, correct? So now I just have a rattling box in the middle of the bed, which I'm trying to keep up front with a shovel. br>I should have trusted my instincts. This plastic box will never be able to withstand the rigors of a real workplace. To be fair, I drive on a lot of gravel roads, work at elevations between 7,000 and 10,000 feet (in direct sunlight), and see sub-zero temperatures on a regular basis in the winter. None of these circumstances, I'm sure, helped the boxes last as long as they did. If you need something for work, however, go buy a good steel box for $400.

Bracket that has been broken The concept is fantastic, but the execution is lacking
3/5

The bracket rusted through and broke after two and a half years. The manufacturer would only sell me a new entire unit, not a bracket replacement. They are not to be purchased from again.

junk
3/5

Spending money is a waste. With only 20 pounds in it, the box cracked right where it is attached to the hinge and came loose after less than a year. This item is made of thin plastic and should not be purchased. This is complete nonsense.

With a drop-in bedliner, it was installed on a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic
4/5

To begin with, this is a practical container. I have a tonneau cover, and this box allows me to get to my tools without having to roll the cover up all the way. It had a surprising amount of storage, but it wasn't as much as a standard truck box. Here's the only real flaw in the system. If you have a drop-in bed liner, you will need to cut a small section of it out to mount your hardware. According to the instructions, you must cut out a large section that is the same size and shape as the entire tool box. If you look at my photos, you'll notice that only minor cuts are required, and there are videos online that demonstrate how to do so without ripping up your bed liner. Additionally, if you have tie downs and bed lights, as I do in the photos, this box will accommodate them. I can still reach my tie downs, but I'll have to go under or over the box to do so. You could raise your box a few inches to get a better view of the tie fown. I made the decision not to. Apart from that, it's a fantastic box.

In my 2016 RAM 2500, I installed one on each side and it fit perfectly
5/5

The bracket fits into a dimple that already exists on the. Everything went according to plan. No, it's not a heavy-gauge steel toolbox, but the plastic is durable enough to hold the tools and parts that most truck owners keep in their bed. I put about 35-minutes of work into it. 40 pounds of straps, chains, hitch adapters, and tools are included in each one. In my 2016 RAM 2500, I installed one on each side and it fit perfectly. Because the bracket aligns with a dimple on the truck, it's incredibly simple to install. With the help of an impact wrench, the self-drilling screws were quickly installed. In less than 10 minutes, both were up and running. My truck is already covered with an ARE Z series cap, but the cap brackets/clamps above the tool boxes still have plenty of room. The only thing that surprised me was the short distance between the two tool boxes (they stick out past the wheel wells). Oh well, I don't transport 4x8 sheets very often, and when I do, it's simple enough to post one box from the hinges. I wouldn't use these in a bed that isn't covered. UV rays, I believe, would brittle them, but I could be mistaken. I can see why some people would want an all-metal box with the same concept, but the cost would be significantly higher. Overall, this is a fantastic product that solves the problem of repurposing otherwise unused space while also making it accessible.
