The seams in the annex are NOT TAPPED. Rainwater and sand are allowed to enter the annex through needle holes in the tent wall at the bottom of each rain fly zipper. These seams at the rain flaps will need to be reinforced so that the wind does not loosen them further. It rained on the first day out, and the seams leaked into the floor (though that part is made of good material). I'm glad I didn't plan on using this as a spare bed on this trip. RTT made me wish I had chosen a different brand.
In fact, I strongly advise you to read it. It, however, does not work with my setup. My 2- My GMC P/U truck has a man rooftop tent on an ARE Overland cap. My truck's profile from the side - It is quite curved from the top edge of the cap to the bottom edge of the lower sheet metal. 12 years old, most likely. 14 inches in length The annex was designed to hang straight down on the side of the vehicle that is in contact with it. The annex's sides are forced to be curved/slanted due to the curve in my setup. The annex door and zipper are out of square as a result, and the annex floor has major wrinkles. There's no way the annex door or screen can be zipped all the way shut. The only option would be to off-load the problem. Mount the rooftop tent on a 12-foot pole. 14 inches in length The annex would then be able to hang straight down and fit perfectly. That is not how I intend to set up the tent. It's already a sail for the wind. I don't want it dangling a foot from one side of my cap. Plus, it would necessitate extending my Yakima rack bars to their maximum length (unsupported) and drilling new holes for the tent mounting brackets. There were no problems with the product once again - The construction is excellent, and the concept is brilliant. The issue is a proper fit. Perhaps Smittybilt could include in the product description that it is designed to hang straight down on the vehicle's side. It wouldn't be a problem if the curve was only a few inches. 12- The 14-inch height difference is a show-stopper.
It takes far too long to put together. Instructions were inadequate. The terrain and vehicle height are far too important.
It's useful for changing in a sand-free or warm environment. Water started coming in where water pools at the bottom the first time I used it in the rain, less than 5 minutes after it got wet. Because my jeep isn't as tall as others, the material collects water at the bottom and lets it into the annex. It's also quite bulky when packed. They simply send you a bag to store it in that does not even come close to closing when folded.
It matches my tent beautifully! This is great for a changing room or bathroom, or even as a guest sleeping tent because it fits a twin mattress well. Definitely a good investment.
Easy to assemble, durable, and large enough to store or use any camping equipment.
The Smittybilt RTT is fantastic! It's simple to set up and dismantle. The winds were around 45 mph at times during the night when we went to the beach to camp last weekend. The tent never shook, but the rain fly made some noise; the temperature was in the low 50s, but the tent kept us very warm with all the windows closed. Don't be afraid to take risks; you won't be sorry!.
I'm not sorry I bought it, but the velcro straps are falling apart. Everything else seems to be in good working order. It's likely that you'll have to beef it up a little bit here and there.
