There's no such thing as a third time! Three Pop-ups in the last few years I

& I. Over the last eight years, I have purchased several lock tailgate handles. As a whole, I think the product is decent There are some improvements that need In the past, I had issues when my daughter pulled on the handle too hard. I understand that this has been fixed by the manufacturer. The lock on my second handle failed about a month ago, causing it to malfunction. The finish on my desk is heavily weathered and worn because we live in a sunny area of the US Now there is more gray than black. This is my third handle that I've installed. In hopes that this lock will last longer than my previous With a price tag of $80+, one would imagine that.

The warranty is included in the installation

Having just finished installing the PL5400 tailgate lock, I just thought I'd post. My vehicle key coded the lock to my truck, so everything went smoothly. One of the steps in the instructions wasn't followed to the letter. In Step #3 it says "BY FLIPPING THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE LOCK EVERYWHERE to allow for lock assembly, the LEFT DRIVER SIDE LATCH ROD IS READY TO BE FITTED. ". (EVEN IF THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY WORKS WITHOUT FLIPPING THE LATCH ROD, EARLY FAILURE MAY RESULT. 2) I decided not to flip the rod as a couple of reasons dictated that. Many others said the rod does not need to be bent so it doesn't rub against the lock assembly as long as you bend it slightly to give it some clearance. As well, I was no longer able to use the securing clip for the rod if it were flipped. It's evident that Toyota placed that clip there on purpose. He bent it just enough so the full range of motion is visible during daylight hours. Prior to installing the lock assembly, I also applied synthetic grease to every part of the assembly that made contact with another one. I also did this to the left and right latch rods where they pass The rest of the internal parts where I could not reach the synthetic grease were covered with lithium grease in spray form. If anything happens that's not good, I'll be sure to let you know right away. It is good news when there is no A few issues concerning the one-year warranty issue on this item have been raised and I will clear up the confusion. You can deal with the warranty directly with Amazon. The way it works is the way I explained it to them. Once you receive the broken item, Amazon will either send you another one, or refund the purchase price, according to their standard 30 day policy. Should the item fail within 30 days, they will send you another one, or refund your money, once they receive the broken item. It will simply refund your money if it fails after a period of 30 days, but no more than one year. I have updated. The reply I received to my email just went through Regarding the negative reviews about this item, I sent an email to the manufacturer on 3/27/17. The reply they gave is as follows. You recently purchased Pop & Lock from us and I'd like to thank you for that On the basis of customer feedback, we upgraded our handle almost 2 years ago. A glass handle has been used in place of ABS plastic for the handle There are many similarities between the material used on the OEM handle and the filled nylon. We have made our handle much more durable with this new material. Several of our components have also been updated, including metal work, which helps increase the over-all durability Upon purchase, we will warranty our product for a period of one year with proof of purchase, but we do not guarantee items sold by Amazon, but rather they will warranty the product through a written agreement instead. As long as you purchase through them, your product is still covered by the same warranty. I would be happy to answer any other questions you have. Thanks for contacting me. Pam.

I installed it on my 2014 Taco with a hard Bakflip tonneau and it worked great
3/5

Don't just buy this lock, but be very careful. My 2014 Taco with a hard Bakflip tonneau cover used it for nearly a year without a problem. A sudden and unexpected incident happened. The lock still turned, but the handle was inoperative! As all of my stuff was locked in, I had to perform a very difficult rescue by trying to get into the bed of my own truck. Finally, I managed to open the box, but it was painfully clear the Pop & Lock was not functioning properly Because of cheap plastic parts used in the construction of this piece of junk, the lock stopped working. After buying it from Amazon and being told that the warranty is worthless, I sent it to Pop&aposs for repair. The Auction Site is void of all warranties after Lock calls. Unfortunately there are no other options for Tacoma owners, which means we have to live with trash from companies like this one.

The lock works very well and is easy to install
5/5

There is indeed a 2015 Toyota Tacoma that this will fit. Since I had already installed a "plain Jane" model on a 2011 Tacoma, I had some previous experience from that model that helped me with this PL5400 installation. Before you install, I strongly recommend that you do the following 2) Go to the website and look at their instructions as they are much easier to read than those in the packages. 3) Watch the video on YouTube " pop & grow A lock pl5400 tailgate lock may be a better choice. This unit is built better than the OEM non-locking version, so just be precise and careful when assembling. IF you follow the instructions to the letter, you will find as I did, that the unit is built better than the OEM non-locking version. In less than fifteen minutes, I completed the installation of the tailgate lid with a battery screwdriver with the torx bit, and then slowly installed it back on, and finished tightening with a ratchet wrench. With the PL5400, I don't have to pull as hard on the handle as I did with the OEM version of the handle. In fact, I have to pull less to open the tailgate with the PL5400 than I did with the OEM version. In my opinion, the "trick" to obtaining that characteristic is carefully reversing the one "opening" wire as instructed, and placing it on the two pins as shown in the video. To close the small colored plastic clamps, gently turn them over the reversed wire, then turn them back over until you can close them over the wire that you just reversed, as shown As soon as you complete this process, you will notice that in every aspect, this handle is somewhat superior to the OEM handle that you are replacing, particularly in the locking mechanism. Before I was able to "program" the key, before I had the key installed, I not only tested the lock as instructed, but I also tested the back up camera by putting it in reverse, and it worked exactly as it had when it was bought from the truck manufacturer. As soon as I did so, I was able to hear a click, which means the key was programmed successfully. I simply held the key in fully as I turned the key clockwise about 190 degrees. To fix the exterior, I used the torx screws to reattach the black
inside tailgate cover. It worked flawlessly when I tried locking, unlocking, and opening the tailgate several times. There are much clearer and larger instructions on the website and on the YouTube video, which is a major factor here.
