It looks like Pop and Lock has moved into mass producing plastic items using cheap plastic and the price is too high
3/5

It has a major flaw and both the coded lock and this one have it. The problem is that it does not work properly. There is an old pop and lock in my house that has lasted for a long time due to the components not being made from Also, people purchasing these items from Amazon, Craigslist, or Ebay will not be eligible for Pop and Lock's warranty service. I had to play around with it for around 30 minutes before I got it to function. The moment the lock stops working, I will trash it and will never ever buy another lock from them until they can provide some form of support and make improvements to the inner mechanism of this lock. Then they will ask why we buy these products Because they are cheaper, you may expect them to break sooner or later.

After three months of daily use, the product has been functional
4/5

In August and October of 2019 I lived out of my truck, and before that I installed this on it. This locking handle was the perfect combination with my truck tonneau for securing my belongings in the bed of my truck. The installation process was straight forward and simple. The handle looked very similar to the OEM handle, and the backup camera can be routed easily. Because all my cooking gear was stored in the tailgate, I had to open and close the tailgate 15 times each day. The only time I had trouble opening the lock was after wet snow and freezing night conditions followed by a previous day of snowfall. I drove 12,000 miles through different conditions. The torch I used for this was a small butane torch A mere 10 seconds later, the lock was normal once again. You'd have to be cautious if you live in a freezing climate and you need to use it to open the container. In sum, the thin, flimsy feel of it coupled with the one-sided design have ruined it for me Although I have experienced a time freeze with this product, the functionality it provides is far greater. It kept all my belongings safe, and only once allowed me to down. To have a feature that was meant to be a standard feature, I think the preventative maintenance of graphite lube is worth the price.

The handle fits and finishes like a Toyota handle, so it is easy to install
5/5

Reading the reviews on the tailgate lock handle, I found it to be very reliable. My first reaction was to resist, but now that I have a bed cover, I figured this would be the best option. The matte handle finish of the case didn't seem to be a problem for me, which suggests that the design and manufacture have been refinement. On top of the tailgate, it matched the finish of the trim. If you look at the Toyota non-FWD you will see It is the same quality fit and finish as the locking handle. The four securing bolts have brass inserts, so you are not screwing into plastic, as is the case with the OEM handle. There is no difficulty in operating the mechanism, and there are Mounted at the same height as the OEM handle, the camera looks like a stock camera. I installed it in 25 minutes, including 10 minutes looking for my torque My review will be updated after I have used it for a while.

Here are some installation suggestions Lock tumblers are held together by a small phillips screw. There is a lot of looseness in this. When I tried to tighten it, the tumbler nearly fell over. If you like, you can turn the screw to see how much looseness there is, but don't force it. Everything should be loose enough for it to turn easily. If debris has accumulated in the seam at the bottom of the tailgate, blow it out with a leaf blower while the tailgate covers are off. The seam should be coated with rustproofing or thick oil. Within a dozen years, you'll be glad you learned about me. Remember to not tighten the Torx screws too much when you put the covers back on, or the plastic will be damaged.

The fit is good, but the quality is poor

I don't think it lasted even two Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with 73" bed and The first review for this thing I wrote was in September of 2014. Now after a year and 11 months with the part no longer functioning, I am updating the review. A good sign The system was installed on a 2012 Toyota A locking tailgate would be a good idea for the Toyota Tacoma We will never know what the reasoning was behind this retarded design decision. One of the things we have to do is fix the problem. It was at first VERY skeptical of me It will be of poor quality, poorly fit, and have directions that are incorrect. I am impressed with how well it fits and how clearly the directions are explained Although the quality of plastic is poor, it remains true that the plastic is essentially unusable. (Never forget the local Toyota dealership will install a lock The part they are using is similar to THIS one, since there is no Toyota tailgate lock, and I was quoted $400 to replace it. 3) The actual swap itself I like how easy it is to get out. In my 2012, there are Torx #30 bolts holding the tailgate cover in place. As well as the 10MM sockets for the four bolts on the lock itself, I used a 10MM wrench for the four key holes. The first two keep the camera in place while the remaining two hold the thing in place. In the end, the camera was the easiest part of the whole process, and I was the most nervous. Cutting the camera wiring, removing the cables, or anything BS is not ok. This isn't good It is very common for Amazon descriptions to be wrong, however I am an avid buyer on Amazon. We are dealing with such a situation This part number 5500 does not automatically match your truck key and does not have any magical features. The key ring is supplied with a pair of little In the end, it really comes down to this In just 23 months, all this fell apart. I never used it too much and I never abused it. Here are the reasons for the A series of circular plastic mounts that carry the steel attachment bolts cracked and disintegrated, leaving the thing without any means of holding it In my opinion, it is not worth the price of $65 on Amazon and the plastic is cheap. It is my responsibility to Replaced the stock, no-lock part with the stock.

They have a YouTube video of a good lock
5/5

I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. If I'd had a drill as a tool for disassembling the tailgate, it would have been faster. I find the latch to be a little flimsier than the OEM latch, but it works fine. I found it odd that the driver side rod had to be flipped when installing, but it went in perfectly on my 2010 Tacoma on the first try. I had another model in my 05 Tacoma that was a second piece that simply slid on the bottom, so the factory handle was still there, but I guess it would block the camera for these new models. If I were to buy again, I doubt it since the newer Toyota Tacomas come with locks as standard.
