Despite being a Ram 1500, I did not have a locking handle on my 2003 model. I could not believe how easy it was You must remove the access cover from the tailgate in order to connect the handle. Once you do so, two small bolts secure it. Bully's new latch is just like a factory one in feels and operates the same. There are no sticking issues with the locking mechanism, and it is easy to put and take the key out when you need to use it. The locking tailgate will still slow down someone who needs to take a heavy or bulky item out of the bed, even if I do not get a tonneau cover. There aren't many locking tailgate handles I would recommend more than this Bully one.
Does that locking handle appeal to you? It does, however, I do not like the heavy plastic shoulders on the keys so I contacted Pilot and Bully to see if I could get a replacement. The dead wire is a real thing. I did not receive a Is it not just as simple as going to a locksmith? Not at all. This lock can be opened only by key blanks that are unique to the I have tried top locksmiths, and the key appears to be just like a Dodge key, but it is thinner and the notch does not match up perfectly. Thus, there is no way for one to be Bottom line? Better not lock the gate and not have a backup key in hand. If you want to replace the lock, you will need to gain access to your cap by breaking it, or by damaging your Tonneau cover. Please keep these things in mind This key has a VERY thin surface and is thus very easy to bend.
I like it a lot. In terms of durability or security power, I can't speak to much, but I appreciate how easy it was to set up and how inexpensive it was to purchase. In the end, the vinyl cover on the bed is not going to keep prying eyes out, as to do that one would just have to cut it with a knife. All it needs to do is keep the low hanging fruit out and prying eyes out. Your tailgate is also less likely to be stolen if the tailgate is secure. One criticism I have of this vehicle is that the lock cylinder is located in the center of the handle when you want to open the tailgate, which will get in the way. There really isn't a reason to complain about it and it's easy to work around, but moving it to the side of the handle would be ideal.
A used 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 was recently purchased and had its bed converted to a bak flip hardtop. A moment later I realized the tailgate actually did not have a lock. When looking around, I came across this Bully Tailgate lock and I have not been In less than 20 minutes, we installed the software and it works well. It is difficult to open the latch due to the placement of the lock, according to some people. The tailgate catches on the side of my vehicle easily, but I would guess that if you open and close your tailgate constantly, this might be a major issue. You can't go wrong with this purchase.
There is a slight gap between the handle and the tailgate. It does not quite flush with the tailgate. The screwdriver or pry bar could damage the screw, but if you use it long enough The area around the gate opening where the latch is installed should be gently pushed or pulled against the bar. Having done this, the metal was bent in no way, just gently pulled so it would be able to be pulled against the gate with the handle. Once the lock was installed, the metal was bent enough to require the handle to pull against the gate where it was flush with the gate. This is a pretty straightforward process. In order to be able to understand what I am talking about, I will take the shirt off and take pictures of me doing it. While I realize it shouldn't be necessary, it is as much of a Dodge issue as any other. There is at least one easy fix to this.
There should be a hardware store near me that can make one for me. So far, I haven't had any other issues. I have read the original Within a few minutes I had it installed. Mark or tape the hinge rods where they connected to the old latch, just make sure they are accessible. There hasn't been any issue with my tailgate lock since it was installed. In the past two years, I have transported lumber resting on the tailgate without any issues. It is a product I would recommend Having the extra piece of mind is worth it if you have a tonneau cover or live in an urban area with a high tailgate theft rate.
I seen it on Amazon when I bought my tonneau cover. The locking tailgate release has always been on my wish list, but I kept putting it off, so I put it in the cart with the tonneau cover since I was all set to go. In over ten years, this has been the most straightforward installation I've done on my truck. There is no problem with the lock. A few nits include the fact that the lock is under the handle and your fingers hit it every time you open the tailgate, plus with gloves on it may be a bit of a challenge considering the Ram tailgate is rather heavy than a Chevy truck that appears lightweight. The other brand is good too, but not as good as this one.
It fits perfectly and works like it should in a 2006 RAM 1500. From reading some of the reviews, I was concerned the lock would be in the way, but I have not had that issue. I think both are made out of plastic, so they are pretty similar as far as differences from the original handle are concerned. My purchase was of good quality and I am happy with it. . . *B. You will need the right Torx socket or driver to remove the gate access plate, so that the handle can be replaced.
