Where does that leave us? Using a 4Runner, we lifted the tent that sits atop the 4Runner. Inadvertently, we did not realize that the ladder would not reach the ground once we returned to the house. The extension was needed, but I was wondering why Smittybilt didn't just replace this ladder with the telescoping type ladder found on most other RTTs? Especially with a small extension, this ladder does not feel as stable as those ladders. In addition, the ladder sections slide along each other, which makes the ladder sections so prone to sand and dirt, leading to serious hassles when trying to extend them. In addition to that, the car will be taller once all its pieces have been put away, taking up more space inside There is also the obvious cost! The company needs to switch to the telescoping ladder, but we were able to resolve our issue of not being able to reach the top, so I gave it three stars.
It is 9 feet from the ground where my tent is set up, so this ladder extension was perfect for me! I am enjoying myself very much now that I can camp high up. Smittybilt, thanks for the kind words!.
Worked like a champ, I have a 6" lifted FJ on 35's and the ladder didn't reach up and down straight, so I bought this and it was perfect- This mount is easy to attach to the rack and gives more options for leveling the rig on It's a great ride with Schmittybilt.
Since I put my Smittybuilt Overlander tent on top of my enclosed trailer while clamped down on the ladder racks, my ladder needed to be longer. With this one piece extension section, the tent is raised the proper amount to be climbed and descended safely. A very solid lock holds it in very securely and it slides right on the ladder without any trouble. I regularly store the tent in the nice storage bag provided with the tent when I have it on my Jeep congo roof rack. The ladder that comes with the tent is the perfect height, and the extension is conveniently stowed away in the bag.
Smitty products, like all products from Smitty, arrived in a timely manner. Holes lined up and it was sturdy. It came with a nice bag for storage, too. Since I have space under the cover, I can use the bag for shopping or whatever the case may be.
There is something wrong with the size of this unit. It is Due to the fact that my friend and I were having difficulty sliding the chute down the stairs smoothly. There is a problem when it does not slide into the correct position. This must be taken to the doctor's office for repairs!.
In almost every way, it seemed In the end, I was able to put it on but had to remove it with the same amount of force I used to put it on.
