My search for this product gave me a limited choice I found light-colored plastic in three auto supply stores Seals made from foam that is lightweight. According to my experience, that style of seal falls apart after a few times of putting on and taking off the truck cap. There are no complaints about this product. I was replacing the one on a Leer fiberglass truck bed cover I have had for more than 20 years. According to the instructions, you must start with a clean surface, but this is next to impossible to do in my case due to the problem with peeling off the old seal. In order to install the new seal on the top of the ice box, I hit it with a razor blade/knife and acetone then installed the new seal which has weathered well since it was installed. A tight fit. Furthermore, it removes easily from the top of the truck bed when I remove it. It is ultimately worth the extra money over the cheap foam seals, unless you do not remove your truck bed topper, in which case the cheap seals might work just fine.
I had no problems applying the seal to my topper. There have been no leaks since I installed this seal. I was very impressed with the quality of the product. The seal I went with is because I take my tarp off and on because I drive a gooseneck trailer which I tow. As the foam seal it replaced was less durable, I hope this will last longer. Now that the seal is in place, I am very satisfied with it.
I like this sealant a lot. This is a heavy duty product. If you're cutting notches for corner bends, be careful not to damage the surface. In the instructions I told you to use scissors, but as soon as it started to give, it started cutting through the material. My mistake on one of the straight runs was able to be spliced together thanks to my mistake on the other straight run. It's been raining pretty hard for a while now, but I haven't noticed any leaks at all in my truck. The sealer I use is excellent and I highly recommend it.
It is for my recently painted top hat on my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 that I have ordered this rubber seal kit. While I was having my top painted, the adhesive strip had come off the seal and was sticking to the paper when I was trying to apply it. I was extremely disappointed. Thanks to some spray adhesive the body shop had on hand, we were able to make this work rather than having to return it and wait for a replacement. We were disappointed that the adhesive was not able to hold the seal in place where it should have been. The rubber seal itself is of good quality, but the adhesive made it impossible to mount the seal in its proper place.
It was holding it in place when I was positioning it that I had to use some blue painters tape. Then, remove the blue tape from the topper before you set it on the truck bed. Despite its small size, the seal is quite amazing. A leak is not present.
If you don't take off your truck cab much, it won't matter. It doesn't stick too well, but once you have it on, it doesn't matter. However, the sealant is thick and helps make the seal.
Installation was straightforward, it did exactly what it was supposed to do. This is perfect!.
