Questions & Answers
With the correct connection harness, getting started is as simple as plugging it in and going.
There is a plug next to the emergency brake paddle in the tow package if it came with one. This makes it very easy The wires from the rear plug should be run up to junction box, where the battery is located and the trailer brakes. There should also be two automatic reset circuit breakers in the engine compartment one will be 40 amp and the other will be 30 amp. It is possible to find detailed instructions on YouTube by searching for "how to install a trailer break system." There are videos with instructions both for wiring a trailer break system with and without Hopefully, this helps a bit! All vehicles can be equipped with the trailer brake unit.
Almost any brake controller should be compatible with almost any truck, as far as I know. If you have the tow package, you're going to have a different experience. In every 3500 I've owned, there was a tow package, so I had no problem connecting it to the trailer. One I installed on my Mercury Mountaineer that did not have the tow package required that I wire it in myself. In case you have a receiver installed by the factory, you have a towing
What's the difference between the two plugs? On the 3020 that I purchased, there were two plugs attached to it one plug went into a Teknosha controller that has a four pin flat connector, and the other went into a plug under the hood of a vehicle with factory wiring. Harnesses such as this are suitable for RAM trucks manufactured from 1995 to 2009. This was installed in a 2003 RAM 2500 as part of a factory tow package, using a P3 brake controller. You will find the vehicle connector on the far left under the dash, near a large wire harness connector. The connector is bright electric blue in color and this is the plug into which the 3020 connects.

This part is used on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 vehicles. Initially, I bought the Tekonsha harness over the Reese (Towpower 8507111 Brakeman IV Compact Brake Control), since (for some reason) Reese is trying to charge almost as much for their harness as they are for There are many harnesses from Tekonsha for many controllers and in multiple forms BEFORE you trust them with your money, make sure you check them out.
In addition, if your Dodge Ram came with the factory tow package, you will have the blue wire mate just below your steering column (either side of your gear shift). In the case that your Ram didn't come with a factory tow package, the towing package may or may not be included.
My 2005 Dodge Durango came equipped with this under dash trailer port, which I used to attach my Reese Towpower 8508211 brake control. Simply plugging in the two connectors, and using zip ties to secure everything under the dash, was all it took to make the installation look neat.
The 2006 Durango was equipped with this. I was able to mount the controller near the center (before my right knee) due to the long wiring.
It took me less than a minute to find where to plug it in, and it was done. It is certainly worth the money!.
Effortless to use and fits like a glove. The wiring is easier than if you did it A 200-mile trip went without a hitch. I am very pleased with it.
I have purchased several of them and they are still operational.
Installing this product was super easy! I had no problems with the installation. This unit easily plugged into the socket on my truck and into the controller on my tekonsha brake system.
I cannot think of a reason not to do this. Rather than splice wires together and risk poor splice connections (or getting wires crossed), using this simple wire with the vehicle plug on one end and the brake controller plug on the other, makes this an easy job (plus mounting the brake controller of course).
