First off, I like it. It is a very discreet device, and it takes up little area in the cabin when installed. Testing it one time (ran it only once) seemed to cover everything perfectly. This is the bad part, the ID of the lower plastic turn knob is too small for a safe grip. It clamped the inner shaft when the metal it mounted to became hot. Since there was no adjustment knob at the top, it was difficult to turn the inner shaft. Despite this, the real dangerous problem was when I pushed in on the outer knob (forcing the brakes to activate), I would get the shaft stuck down, locking the brakes. I cannot imagine how bad it would be if this happened while driving. * Solution To fit properly, I took a Demel auger tip and opened the inside diameter until the tip fit. It actually took me quite a while to remove most of the * I know you don't make the plastic parts at Reese but they do need to improve their quality checks so that this damage won't occur.
There is a lot to like about this It is really neat how little space is taken up by the dash. Having the LED indicator, which lights up green when you connect your trailer, and turns red when you brake, is another plus. When the brake light is bright, it means the brakes are working hard. Smooth braking is a feature of this system. module is connected to the indicator, and the knob is connected to the knob by about two wires. There are 5 feet between each end of the pipe.
It seemed to me that Reese's products were of good quality In spite of this, this compact iq brake controller is an absolute dud. I found the installation process to be not awful, but it does take some time, and my main problem is the quality of the craftsmanship they use to build their product.
The main component of the product is the rotary switch, which turns out to be defective Since the boost control and the power gain turn in concert, any adjustment made to one has a corresponding effect on the other, so to adjust them correctly requires moving both hands at the same time. In order to hold the gain and boost controls, one hand must be held on each side. I do not think this is how the controller was designed to be operated. Second, when you press the manual control button it does not return to its off position, you must pull the button back to its off position manually. This makes me very nervous when in an emergency trying to press the manual control button and it does not return, could My recommendation for this controller is to stay away from it.
In my GMC Canyon I was able to install it myself quickly and easily. Great! Works like a charm. The voltage output is more than sufficient for my 31 foot 6,000 lb two axel lift. Having the clean, discrete install is important to me when it comes to a travel trailer. The center knob sets the power, the outer ring sets the rampup gain, and the manual trailer brake is opened by pressing and holding the handle.
It is very easy to install and it works very well. The process of picking a spot took much longer than it did to install. Along with this, I bought a wiring adapter for my vehicle. All I had to do was connect 3 wires [right to vehicle harness]. In front of the dash facia, underneath the heater controls, I put the controller. My new controller went where the factory controller would have gone. Perfect! This works like a charm! It's a very happy day for me.
My dream controller would be a one that can be concealed behind the dash, but still allow for boost and gain adjustments. It seems to be safe and secure, as the wires and body are glued together and epoxied. I did not find the stickers to be very good, though they stuck well, but there was no clean print on them. It is up to the installer to decide how to place the knob control and led light. Having said that, I wiggled mine into place between the gear shift and autotrac controls on my 2014 Silverado. At this point, I have not taken the boat for a ride yet, so there is no operational review.
I've tried it in my Tacoma and it works great! With a 16' Forest River Wolf Pup, I was looking for a trailer brake controller that was low profile. I insisted on a low profile controller after seeing other products put in. I didn't like how they worked in a small cab like mounted the adjustment knob in a switch just to the left of the steering column and the LED immediately behind it. Unlike the dash lights on other cars, this allows me to see as soon as the system goes on and when I break without being an annoying distraction while driving There is a stock bar under the steering column that houses the Brake Controller box. To be able to install the stock connector, I just had to observe to the left of the brake pedal. Since my truck came with the factory towing package, I found it very easy to locate. The process took about 30 minutes, and the end result is beautiful!.
There isn't anything in the way of the installation, which looks clean. My recommendation for this product would be over a lot of other products. It is the best controller I have ever used.
